Jane Austen Birthday Party: Prize Two

Party time!

So I have been planning my Jane Austen 29th birthday party for a few years, and I’m not letting the Coronavirus get in the way. I had always planed a garden party (social distancing check), trying to keep it small (small groups check), and our county has moved a tier down. But even if everything gets on lockdown again and it turns out to be just me, I’m having it!

The party is this Saturday, but I plan to continue sharing everything. I am going to do three games at the part, I’ll share soon: one is to be everyone is given a Jane Austen character and has to guess who, a look at a tea tray or tea/Jane Austen items and they have to try and remember as many as they can, and a Jane Austen Trivia game.

So if we have games then we need prizes! In a previous post I shared one of the prizes being a copy of Persuasion, a tea infuser which I added an anchor charm to, and a thimble with the HMS Cutty Sark on it.

For the next prize I decided to focus on Pride and Prejudice.

After all it is her most known and loved work.

Back in January, I had purchased one of Litographs Pride and Prejudice tattoos when they were on sale. I had originally planned to use them as a giveaway, but then thought they would be perfect as part of a prize for one of the games. I also swapped for a hardcover copy of Pride and Prejudice, and the third thing I decided to add to this was a tea towel I embroidered. As both previous items were purple, I decided to go with the same colors in making this.

This was a lot of work as that gold thread was beautiful but also time consuming as it kept unraveling-but I made it work. I love doing embroidery and I can’t understand why people always seem to hate it, or have their character hate it to show they are “modern” or “intelligent”. Why do we value other artwork but not embroidery? Embroidery is just as artistic as painting, drawing, or sewing. I don’t know, but I hope people start valuing it again. Here is everything all together:

This whole bag came out to $9.88: Pride and Prejudice book $0.49, Pride and Prejudice Tattoo Pack $5, Flour Sack Dishtowel $2.50, and Gold, Green, & Purple Thread $1.89. What do you think, is this a good prize? I still have a day to change it up if not.

I’ve been having so much fun sharing all these things with you, I can’t wait to continue it will all the other party plans!

Jane Austen Birthday Party: Prize One

Party time!

So I have been planning my Jane Austen 29th birthday party for a few years, and I’m not letting the Coronavirus get in the way. I had always planed a garden party (social distancing check), trying to keep it small (small groups check), and our county is moving a tier down. But even if everything gets on lockdown again and it turns out to be just me, I’m having it!

Party time!

So far I have the tea cups for favors and made and sent out the invitations.

So I am planning to do three games. I want one to be everyone is given a Jane Austen character and have to guess who, a look at a tea tray or tea/Jane Austen items and they have to try and remember as many as they can, and a Jane Austen Trivia game.

So if we have games then we need prizes! I plan for each prize to have a Jane Austen book for each and some other goodies. One I defintely decided on was to be Pride and Prejudice of course, and another to be Northanger Abbey. For the third I hemmed and hawed and finally decided on Persuasion.

It is such a great book that has gotten more interest lately, and I would love someone who has never read it to enjoy it.

So I traded on paperbackswap for a hardcover copy and then settled on what to do next. I had an extra tea infuser, as I bought a set of two and gave one to a friend, and a lot of nautical charms, so I decided to add an anchor and voila!

Then when I was out with my niece at an antique shop she wanted to purchase a thimble to use as a cup for her Barbie dolls. I looked with her and found this beautiful one with the HMS Cutty Sark on it.

In total this came out to this at $6.08: the book $0.49 to “swap”, the tea infuser $2.50, the anchor charm $0.09, and the thimble $3.

So what do you all think. Is that enough or should I add something else to it?

Hmm…?

I can’t wait to share some of my other plans with you all.

The Magician’s Nephew Tea Party/Book Club: Cranberry Feta Pinwheels

So every Wednesday, starting in October, I have been a part of a Tea Party/Bible Study/Book Club on The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis. This is different from my book club and the Book Club Picks I have been reviewing (and desperately need to catch up on). I also need to catch up on these recipes. Week four we had Tiesta Tea Victorian Earl Grey, Lavender and Earl Grey Scones, Chicken Salad Sandwiches, Hummus Tomato Salad, Cranberry Feta Pinwheels, and Triple Berry Salad.

I couldn’t share the recipes in October as I was in the middle of Horrorfest IX, so I am catching up and of course next is the pinwheels.

This recipe comes from Let’s Dish.

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese
  • 1/2 Cup of Crumbled Feta Cheese
  • 1/2 Cup of Chopped Green Onions
  • 1 5-oz Package Dried Cranberries
  • 4 10-inch Tortillas

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl; combine the cream cheese, feta cheese, and green onion.
  2. Stir in the dried cranberries.
  3. Divide mixture evenly between the four tortillas.
  4. Roll each tortilla up as tightly as you can and wrap in plastic wrap.
  5. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  6. Slice the rolled tortillas into 1-inch slices and serve.

This was delicious. We all loved them, and they were a great addition to our tea party.
