I Don’t Want to Say Good-Bye: American Dreamer (1984)

Romantic Moment #5

American Dreamer (1984)

So one weekend, my roommate Elaine went home to visit her parents. When she came back to college, she brought back a bunch of things and movies. She started showing me the different films and telling me about them, stopping at American Dreamer, and said that we had to watch it-that I would love it. She told me it was like Romancing the Stone, but better.

What?

I was like, I love Romancing the Stone. How could this be better? How could I possibly love it more?

Yeah right.

So we watched it. And I loved it! I watched it…

It is amazing!

Cathy Palmer is a bored housewife, dissatisfied with her life and marriage. Her husband pays no attention to her, doesn’t romance her, and only cares about his work.

She spends her days in the romance thrillers starring the spy and detective Rebecca Ryan.

The author of the Rebecca Ryan series is having a contest in which anyone can write a Rebecca Ryan story and the best one will win a week trip to Paris. Cathy enters the contest and wins!

She wants her and her husband to go, but he refuses and forbids her to travel. They fight, but Cathy decides to go anyway. When she gets there, she gets hit by a car, and when she wakes up thinks she is Rebecca Ryan!

Something is not right.

She takes off, goes on a shopping spree, and heads to Rebecca Ryan’s hotel. There she meets the author of the series’ son, Alan McMan, who she believes to be Rebecca Ryan’s sidekick Dimitri . She sets out to solve the “case” of who is trying to kill her, taking Alan along for the ride. The two get caught up in an actual mystery as they go to an embassy dinner, track down a political leader, get shot at, have to hide from sight, get in car chases, etc-trying to solve the crime.

Will Cathy ever gain her memory back? Will she and Alan survive this adventure? And will they solve this case of who is trying to kill them, before “the book ends”?

Most Romantic Moment: I Don’t Want to Say Goodbye

***Spoiler Alert***

So this comes near the end of the film. Alan and Cathy/Rebecca have gone on this wild adventure-with Cathy/Rebecca fainting and waking up to realize who she really is and what has happened-remembering everything.

She and Alan have a moment and it is time for them to separate, back to their daily lives. But even though this whole time he thought she was crazy, she had to drag him along, and all he wanted was for her to stop-he realizes how gray and lonely his life was before her and now he doesn’t want their time to end.

Alan McMan: [To Cathy] I don’t want to say good-bye

Swoon!

So romantic!

Work Will Always Be There But You Might Not Be: The Greatest Show on Earth (1952)

Romantic Moment #4

The Greatest Show on Earth (1952)

I love this film so much. It has Charlton Heston, Jimmy Stewart, and is directed by Cecil B. DeMille. It is fantastic! I could watch it over and over.

Brad Braden (Charlton Heston) is the circus manager of the Ringling Bros. He is all business never having time for anyone or anything not related to the circus.

This upsets his girlfriend, Holly (Betty Hutton) a trapeze artist, who wants more romance.

While he’s always busy, she spends the time she wishes they could be together, working hard to become the star of the show. Unfortunately for her, Brad has just added The Amazing Sebastian, a famous trapeze artist.

They compete with each other for center ring, but that isn’t the only thing that Sebastian is trying for-he also is trying to get with Holly.

Will adding The Amazing Sebastian bring more money and engagements for the circus? Or will it just cause strife between Brad and Holly? Will he focus on his girlfriend, or will he lose her by concentrating all his efforts on the circus?

Most Romantic Moment: Work Will Always Be There But You Might Not Be

***Spoiler Alert***

So this moment comes at the end of the film. There is a lot of action and things that happened in the film. Where this is centered, a Russian Elephant trainer has tried to rob the Circus train to get money to impress a girl, while his partner is trying to rob the Circus train to get back at Brad for shutting down his rigged games.

Wow

The trainer has had a change of heart and tried to stop his partner, but everything still ends in disaster. Animals and people are injured or killed. Sets and props are destroyed. Everything is in shambles.

Brad himself barely makes it, having a rare blood type and needing a transfusion. But all that makes him realize that he loves Holly and needs to show her more. That his work and the circus will always, always, be there-but life is fleeting and his could have been over.

He finally has decided that he is going to make time for Holly, romance her, and put her first. Even though, Holly is now busy trying to get the circus together.

Aw!

So romantic that he realizes how important she is. 🙂

I Want to Recreate Your Perfect Christmas: Holiday in Handcuffs (2007)

Romantic Moment #3

Holiday in Handcuffs (2007)

I remember when this movie first aired during abc family‘s 25 Days of Christmas. It has Melissa Joan Hart who I had loved watching in Clarissa Explains it All and Sabrina the Teenaged Witch.

And it had Mario Lopez from one of my favorite shows growing up, Saved by the Bell.

So of course I had to see it. It wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be, but still good.

So Trudy is having a rough time. Her boyfriend dumped her on the day they were supposed to go away for her family’s big Christmas getaway.

Her hair had a major accident and is not only fried, but in ugly curls.

Misses an important job interview:

And she lost her job.

Meanwhile, David has just arrived to propose to his girlfriend. Trudy has a complete breakdown, snaps, and kidnaps David to have him be her “boyfriend.”

This big getaway has all the keys and phones locked up, so David has no way to get help or to explain to his girlfriend why he stood her up. At first he tries to leave, but then decides to get into the spirit and outshow Trudy.

However, the two actually spend a lot of time talking and getting to know each other-enjoying each other’s company.

Will they work things out to be friends…or more? Or will Trudy be spending the rest of her days in a jail cell?

Most Romantic Moment: Bringing Your Favorite Memory Back

So during one of their heart-to-hearts talks, Trudy shares about her perfect Christmas. One year she was supposed to be in an ice-skating performance and it was canceled because of snow. She was so disappointed, that her father sprayed water over the patio, icing it up and decorated the whole area with lights so she could perform for them there.

Aw!

As this Christmas has pretty much sucked for Trudy, and seeing how her parents treat her, David decides to do something really special, a Christmas surprise. He has recreated her perfect Christmas!  He sprayed the patio so it was icy, and put lights up everywhere; and asks her to show him her ice-skating routine.

So sweet!

I mean here he is-kidnapped, taken away from proposing to his girlfriend, living a lie-yet he recognizes the hurt Trudy has and wants to help her. So romantic!

Romantic Moment #2

So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993)

I had wanted to see this movie for a long time, and finally my friend and I watched it together. I reviewed it for Horrorfest VI

Charlie Mackenzie (Mike Meyers) is a Scottish poet living in San Francisco. He performs at a coffee shop doing his riffs on love. One day he stops at a butcher shop, Meats of the World, to pick up some haggis for his family dinner and meets the butcher-Harriet.

When he visits the family, his mother feels it is her duty to let him know of female serial killer, Mrs. X, that she read about in the tabloids. She hopes that Charlie will be careful and not end up he next victim

He and Harriet continue to date, but he starts noticing that a lot of things about her past are eerily similar to Mrs. X. Is she a fun-loving, eccentric, slightly needy, woman? Or is she an axe murderer?

Most Romantic Moment: I Wrote an A-POEM-OGY

So this romantic moment comes in the middle of the film. Charlie has freaked out over Harriet and is convinced she is Mrs. X, dumping her.

But then he starts to feel like he acted too hastily. And when his police officer friend arrests another woman as Mrs. X; he feels even more stupid.

He tries to get Harriet back, but no dice. She is not interested.

So Charlie decides he most do something really big to prove his love. He gets the coffee shop band to come to her apartment and serenades her with a special Harriet poem.

So awesome!

Who Says I Have to Stop: Fireproof (2008)

Romantic Moment #1

Fireproof (2008)

So I have always been a giant Kirk Cameron fan. I loved Mike Seaver on Growing Pains and after he became a Christian and switched to Christian films-well I watched every thing he was in. So when Fireproof came out in theaters, I was there. And when the DVD went on sale, I was the first at the Christian bookstore to buy it.

Anyways, I actually planned on picking a moment from this for last year’s Romance is in the Air, but didn’t get a chance to.

hearts banner

So the story is of married couple Caleb (Kirk Cameron) and Catherine Holt (Erin Bethea), who have been falling further and further apart.

Caleb is a fireman who feels as if his wife doesn’t care about him, support him, or respects him. Nothing he does is good enough for her and all they do is fight, fight, fight.

Catherine feels as if Caleb doesn’t love and respect her as he is saving money towards his dream of a boat instead of using it for them, and because of his addiction. When a doctor at the hospital she works at starts paying a lot of attention to her, she eagerly responds to it.

Both are ready for divorce, but Caleb’s father comes to him and asks him to try one last thing. He gives him a book called The Love Dare, that includes a 40 Day challenge, with scriptures, to try and help heal their marriage and hearts.

Psalm 147:3

At first Caleb is only half-hearted, doing barely anything to complete his “daily challenge.”

But then he commits himself to God, God begins working on his heart, and he is all in.

But will it be enough to convince Catherine? Will he be able to win Catherine’s heart back? Or is it too late and the relationship has ended?

***Spolier Alert***

Most Romantic Moment: Who Says I Have to Stop

This moment comes at the very end of the film. Caleb has been trying and trying, but after all they have been through Catherine doesn’t even care, she doesn’t want to care because she is afraid of getting hurt again.

One day she is sick and Caleb comes to care for her-bringing her medicine and soup and the like. But Catherine won’t accept his help, she is actually pretty nasty to him.

But Caleb takes it from her. And this upsets Catherine that she reveals why she is so angry now. She find his Love Dare and feels all this is fake.

Catherine Holt: So, what day are you on?

Caleb Holt: 43.

Catherine Holt: There’s only 40.

Caleb Holt: Who says I have to stop?

Catherine Holt: Caleb, I don’t know how to process this. This is not normal for you.

Caleb Holt: Welcome to the new normal.

It doesn’t matter to him that the challenge has “ended” he wants to continue to show how much he loves and cares for her.

This is so romantic!

So awesome!

And even though it is hard and he has received nothing back, he continues to show his love and devotion to his wife.

Romantic Moment #14

pride-and-prejudice-1995-restored-2010-x-250

“Episode Four” from Pride and Prejudice (1995)

So what can I say about this?

prideprejudice1995bbc

I LOVE this miniseries. It is one of the best versions of Pride & Prejudice; Colin Firth is tied with Pride & Prejudice (1940)’s Laurence Olivier in best Darcy.

Darcy Pride and prejudice

So I thought and thought about what I which moment I think would be a good one to choose, and I think I picked one that everyone will love.

hearts banner

So the story of Pride & Prejudice should be something you are familiar with if you are a fan of my blog. Even so, I’ll give a quick synopsis.

So Elizabeth Bennet is the second of five daughters in the Bennet family. This wouldn’t be too bad if the estate was not entailed making it harder for them to find husbands and forcing them to lose everything if Mr. Bennet dies. No one is really concerned with it except their mother who desperately wants them to all to secure a relationship.

Pride&PrejudiceTruthUniversallyAcknowledged

A Mr. Bingley rents a home in the area, thinking about purchasing, and brings his sisters and best friend Mr. Darcy. Mr. Darcy is more aloof, having many dislike him even though he is very wealthy. When Elizabeth overhears him saying she isn’t pretty enough for him, she becomes very upset and the one who dislikes him the most.

Ryan-Gosling-Oh-No-You-Didnt-Half-Nelson

A very handsome soldier, Mr. Wickham, comes into the picture and charms everyone along with giving more ammo on why we should all jump on the “I dislike Darcy train.” Also, the Bennet’s cousin who is set to inherit comes, Mr. Collins, and is extremely disliked by all.

prideprejudicemrcollinsdowntonabbeymatthewcrawley

Bingley leaves suddenly and his sisters and Jane write to each other, with the sisters saying that Mr. Bingley is getting very close to asking Mr. Darcy’s sister for her hand in marriage. Mr. Collins also exits after he is rejected by Elizabeth, deferring his interests for her friend.

HurtMeHurtYouBack

Elizabeth visits Charlotte after she is married and meets Mr. Darcy’s insufferable aunt, Lady Catherine.

Those guys

She also finds out from Mr. Darcy’s cousin that Mr. Darcy was the one who convinced Bingley to leave and forget about her sister, being the one to blame for Jane’s broken heart.

Or an author

After this Mr. Darcy ends up proposing to Elizabeth! It turns out while her dislike was growing he was falling for her!

Pride&PrejudiceMrDarcyEvolutionofDarcy'sviews

She refuses him:

Pride and prejudiceDarcy

Elizabeth thinks that is the end of it, but then Darcy gives her a letter with an extensive explanation. Will it be enough to forgive him or will she just forget him?

hearts banner

Most Romantic Moment: Even Though I’m Not Presentable, I Don’t Care I Want to Spend Time With You

So the moment I have chosen occurs when Elizabeth travels to Pemberley. Here she looks upon Mr. Darcy’s home and hears how everyone talks about him. This coupled with what he revealed in his letter has her wondering if maybe she was wrong to refuse him.

PemberleyPride&Prejudice

Now the only reason Elizabeth agreed to look upon the house was because she thought that Mr. Darcy wouldn’t be there, but unbeknownst to everyone, Mr. Darcy has decided to come home early. As he heads home, he decides to take a dip in the pond.

I just love how shocked yet excited he is to see her that he just wants to talk to her, yet at the same time doesn’t know what to say. It is so cute how he doesn’t even realize his wet clothes or tries to get away to change them.

And then after he realizes his attire, he races to dress and runs downstairs, still wet, in a hurry to not let her slip through his fingers. Even though she rejected him, he still cares deeply for her and wants to spend time with her to change her impressions. So cute!

So romantic!

So romantic!

And just a little extra to make your day special:

Romantic Moment #13

Young Justice

“Usual Suspects”, from Young Justice

So I haven’t gotten around to adding this show to my list of fangirling, but this is a show I thought was just fantastic.

Iloveit love

My friend actually got me interested, and once I started watching, I just couldn’t stop.

HookedOnShowWatchEveryEpisodeBigBangTheory

Why did they only have three season? It was amazingly well done in presenting the characters, the backstories, and the issues they face. This should have kept going.

Why?

Why?

Anyways, let’s move on.

hearts banner

So this episode comes at the very end of the first season. Having been rejected into joining the Justice League, they have their own group, Young Justice, that consists of Superboy (Superman’s clone): M’gann/Megan as Miss Martian (John the Martin Manhuter’s niece); Artemis (Green Arrow’s niece); Dick Grayson’s Robin/Nightwing (Batman’s protogeé); Wally West as Kid Flash (the Flash’s nephew); and Kaldur’ahm’s Aqualad (Aqua Man’s sidekick).

Young Justice

The team work hard to prove their worth; showing that are more than secondary characters. There is also secrets, betrayal, love; and a lot more twists and turns that make this series solid.

Most Romantic Moment: I Knew and I Didn’t Care

**Spoiler Warning**

So Megan has been blackmailed by a villain into doing her bidding or else it will be revealed as to what she really looks like. You see, on Mars there is serious racism between the Green and White martians. Megan was born as a White Martian, and not gonna lie is pretty terrifying. She’s always hated how she looks,

anthony-michael-hall-brian-insecure-quotes-the breakfast club see myself don't like what i see insecure body image

As she has the power to change her appearance all the way down to a cellular level, when she comes to Earth she pretends to be a green martian and copies the form of an actress she admired.

But when this secret threatens the group, she decides to reveal all, but is terrified that they will have the same disgust as those on her home planet.

However, when she reveals her true form; her boyfriend Superboy and the others don’t care. In fact Superboy has known all along, even before they were a couple, and it never mattered to him.

Aw! How sweet!

Aw! How sweet!

And to make it even cuter. In an earlier episode, Image, Megan lies about how she looks and Superboy told her then he didn’t care.

Romantic Moment #12

picture_perfect_ver2

Picture Perfect (1997)

So I started watching this movie one day because I thought it was a different film. I enjoyed it, except for one thing: Jennifer Aniston’s clothes. They are ATROCIOUS. I don’t know who picked them out, but they are ugly. Anyways…

hearts banner

Kate (Jennifer Aniston) is having issues at work. She keeps getting passed over as she isn’t “stable”. She doesn’t own a house, a car, isn’t married, and has no children. Pretty much she has nothing tying her to the company and keeping her from stealing clients; so they will never give her the big accounts.

Life'sNotFairPrincessBride

Not sure about what to do next, her best friend Darcy actually makes the move for her. She takes a picture of Kate at a friend’s wedding, posed with the guy, Nick (Jay Mohr), who won the garter (as she won the bouquet), and tells everyone that he is Kate’s fiancé.

Not good

Not good

Now “stable”, Kate lands a promotion, great office, and the attention of the office hunk, Sam (Kevin Bacon). Kate sends herself flowers, goes “house hunting”, etc. But everything comes to a head when Nick becomes a national hero when he saves a girl from a fire. Everyone wants to meet him; so she calls him up and has him come to a big night to pretend to be her fiancé, coming up with a plan for them to “break up.”

perfect plan

However, things do not go well as Nick is actually a really great and nice guy; one who refuses to break up with her as he likes her and wants to date her.

meettheRobinsonsPlannotthoughtthrough

Will everything turn out the way Kate wishes? Or will this just be a giant flop?

hearts banner

Most Romantic Moment: Even Though You Were Mean, And Everyone Hates Me; I Still Want to Help You

So this moment comes after the big dinner that Kate’s work is putting on. Nick has charmed everybody and been a total dreamboat. However, Kate keeps trying to bring up ways to start a breakup and “end” it, but nothing works as Nick rolls with every punch.

Hmmm...

Hmmm…

So in the end Kate lays it on super thick that he’s cheating on her, breaking her heart, crying hysterically; the whole works. Everyone thinks he is a jerk and he not only gets slapped, and wine thrown in his face; but stuck with a very expensive check, and left to stay in the apartment alone as his “fake fiancé” is ditching him for her “lover,” Sam.

notgoodveronicamarsbadday

Now anyone after this would be unhappy, say they were finished, I didn’t sign up for this, etc. Does Nick? No! He continues to help her out. She comes home having broken up with Sam and accidentally been given a black eye when the door sticks. Immediately Nick goes and gets her something to heal it. He continues to care for her, and make her comfortable.

pictureperfectblackeyeiceeyehurtpaininjured

Then to extend that, when her mother calls (the two having a tumultuous relationship) he takes over that situation by talking to her and charming her; sparing Kate having to continue a bad day or lie to her mom.
