The 12 Days of Christmas

12DaystilChristmas

I know today doesn’t mark the 12 days ’til Christmas, tomorrow actually does, but I can’t help the symmetry of 12.

So I love this song The 12 Days of Christmas, my Christmas isn’t complete without me singing it at least once in the days leading up to Christmas.

The earliest date of the song, as we know, is 1780. Although the one we sing today is based off the 1909 version. Depending on which country you live in, some of the gifts are slightly different.

No one knows why it was written, many assuming it was some memory device for children.

This song also always makes me think of this holiday special I used to watch as a kid where this prince wants to win the heart of the princess he loves. He sends his manservant to steal her Christmas list, but he accidentally steals the answers to the King’s crossword puzzle. Every day he has his manservant deliver a “gift” from the song, the princess is not impressed, but it does help the King. In the end the King has his completed crossword puzzle and the princess and manservant get married. I don’t remember what it was called, but it was a funny movie.

And I have tried to do something every year here on my blog. The only problem is that I get so busy.

So many things come up around the holidays. My first year I tried to do the 12 posts of Christmas, reviewing a different Christmas film in the 12 days leading up to Christmas. It didn’t go as planned.

You shouldn't have messed with me

Besides all the other Christmas things I was doing, I ended up getting sick doing only 7/12 posts.

Noo!

The next year I tried to do a countdown, but it didn’t work out, so I did a singular post (like my Saint Patrick’s Day ones) in which I talked about 25 of my favorite films that have something to do with Christmas. I repeated it again for last year.

However, this year I decided I would try my best to do another countdown. At first I wanted to do The 25 Episodes of Christmas, reviewing my 25 favorite TV episodes. But when November 18th rolled around and I had yet to review even one, I decided it was best to scratch that idea, at least for this year.

But then I got another idea. Why not review a Christmas Carol everyday? Do the regular posting as well, but just include a carol at the bottom of the post?

Its-so-crazy it just mightwork

So that is what I am going to try to do. Fingers crossed that I will accomplish it.

Hey everyone, I am so sad to say this, but I just can’t complete the 12 Posts of Christmas. I thought I would but I ended up catching a virus and  getting really sick, along with having family/holiday things starting to occur. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and I promise you I will try to post something for Christmas.

Not to leave you all completely high and dry I’m going to end with my six favorite Christmas Carols.

3) The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)

Com’on it’s chipmunks! What could be cuter! Alvin and Theodore were always my favorites.

2) Do You Hear What I Hear?

I first heard it in The Little Drummer Boy sequel and loved it! It’s so pretty and here is a video of Bing Crosby singing in his melodious voice. I love the part that goes “a star, a star, way up in the night with a tail as long as a kite”.

1) We Wish You A Merry Christmas

My favorite verse is bring us some figgy pudding! We won’t go until we get some! I just love the fact that the carolers are demanding it! It always makes me laugh when I sing it.
