Have you ever read a book and became so invested in the story?
So much that afterwards you find yourself in a fog and not quite ready for reality.
It’s like you’ve just been rudely awakened, and instead of doing things you have to, all you want is a comfortable chair and your book back.
So the other day I was at one of my jobs. I run the front desk and if no one comes, then I get to spend my whole time reading a book.
Sweet right?! Well the other day we had hardly anyone come in as there were a tone of Christmas parades, Christmas parties, Christmas craft fair, Christmas stroll, etc.
So I just spent the whole time reading.
But then afterwards I had to run some errands before I headed out to the cookie exchange that I baked all those cookies for.
I went to the post office to mail some things, but it was like a fog had descended on my brain.
I was still back in the book I had just finished and unable to answer questions immediately. I even put my pin number in wrong. All my mind could do was think back to the book I had just finished.
Oh well, I rather have my brain getting messed up on books than any other thing.
Today’s Christmas Carol is Christmas Don’t Be Late by Alvin & the Chipmunks.
As a kid I grew up watching their TV show and films, so they were always a staple, and this song was definitely sung around the holidays. It was written and sung in 1958 by Ross Bagdasarian Sr., otherwise known as Dave Seville.
It is a funny silly song that every kid can relate to as they can’t wait for Christmas to arrive.
Yesterday I went to a Christmas party, and everyone there was saying how wonderful Christmas is. There is just something so special about it, how it can truly change attitudes from the miserly Scrooges and grumpy Grinches to love, compassion, giving, etc. It is truly the most wonderful time of the year, just like today’s Christmas Carol says.
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year was written in 1963 and first performed by Andy Williams, being covered many times by others. It was also named by Billboard as one of the top 10 holiday songs. I know I love it!

And I have tried to do something every year here on my blog. The only problem is that I get so busy.
So many things come up around the holidays. My first year I tried to do the12 posts of Christmas, reviewing a different Christmas film in the 12 days leading up to Christmas. It didn’t go as planned.
Besides all the other Christmas things I was doing, I ended up getting sick doing only 7/12 posts.
The next year I tried to do a countdown, but it didn’t work out, so I did a singular post (like my Saint Patrick’s Day ones) in which I talked about 25 of my favorite films that have something to do with Christmas. I repeated it again for last year.
However, this year I decided I would try my best to do another countdown. At first I wanted to do The 25 Episodes of Christmas, reviewing my 25 favorite TV episodes. But when November 18th rolled around and I had yet to review even one, I decided it was best to scratch that idea, at least for this year.
But then I got another idea. Why not review a Christmas Carol everyday? Do the regular posting as well, but just include a carol at the bottom of the post?
So that is what I am going to try to do. Fingers crossed that I will accomplish it.

The Santa Clause (1994)
I first saw the film when I was about five or six and absolutely loved it. It is such an amazing film, and answers almost all the questions one has ever asked about how Santa makes his night flight possible. Tim Allen was amazing, as he is in everything, and Eric Lloyd was simply adorable as Charlie.
Who could say no to that adorable face?
The script was just amazing as the lines are sooo goood! I recommend it for any family to watch, I know I watch it every year.
The film is about self-centered, divorced, father, Tim Allen as Scott Calvin; being tricked into becoming Santa Clause. The film starts out with him being late to getting his son, as he has chosen to hang out at his Toy Maker Company’s Christmas party. He has a fight with his ex-wife and her husband Neil, a psychiatrist, because they have told Charlie that Santa isn’t real. I really hate Neil, he is such an awful guy.

He is so controlling of Charlie, and is always trying to make these huge decisions about him when he is not even his father. He needs to back off and respect that Scott is the father and the one to make crucial decisions.
Scott has not prepared anything for their Christmas Eve dinner. He wants to start the meal but realizes that to cook his frozen turkey, it’s going to take a long time. He then decides to put it in the oven on the highest temperature possible, burning up everything. This causes them to go to Denny’s because it is the only place open. Just like in A Christmas Story, the evening out proves to be hilarious.
“Sarah the Little Girl: Santa? Scott Calvin: Scott Calvin. Sarah the Little Girl: How come your clothes are so baggy? Scott Calvin: Because Santa is… watching his saturated fats. [gestures obesity] Sarah the Little Girl: How come you don’t have a beard? Scott Calvin: Because I shaved! [instantly reveals an unwrapped present for her, out of his bag] Now, you want this doll or not? Go back to sleep.”
The deliver everything and the reindeers take them to the North Pole where everything is explained by Bernard, the head elf.
What a cutie!
The next day Scott wakes up back at home in his bed; convinced everything was just a dream.
Now I really love the irony in this film. Here we have a self-absorbed, toy-inventor who was given the job of being the most unselfish toymaker. Of course Scott doesn’t believe he is Santa, but even though he chooses to live in denial, his body has already transforming. No matter what he does; he gains a belly like a bowlful of jelly, long white whiskers (a beard), and can’t stop wearing red.
And through this all Charlie is just as adorable as ever, telling everyone that his dad is Santa.
“Neil: What about Santa’s reindeer? Have you even seen a reindeer fly? Charlie: Yes. Neil: Well, I haven’t. Charlie: Have you ever seen a million dollars? Neil: No. Charlie: Just because you can’t see something, doesn’t mean is doesn’t exist.”
Here is where the story gets sad. Stupid Neil tries to take over everything and convinces the mom to get rid of Scott’s visiting rights as he feels Scott’s appearance will be damaging to Charlie. But Scott manages to manipulate the mom into letting him see Charlie at Thanksgiving. Charlie is finally able to convince Scott that he really is Santa. Just as Scott has finally accepted who he is, Bernard shows up and whisks them all away to the North Pole. However, they forgot to let the mom know about Charlie and she spends the next month worried about him.
Scott really gets into being Santa; and he works with the other elves and Charlie to complete all that needs to be done. They also do some major improvements with the sled and suit. Before you know it, it’s Christmas and they are heading out to deliver presents.
Little do they know that the police are waiting for them. Not only do they have a ton of cops at Charlie’s house, but they are picking up every Santa in that radius and hauling them off to jail.
When Scott does go to the house to drop off the presents, he ends up being arrested and taken in. This scene always reminded me of Santa Clause is Coming to Town, as he gets caught in a similar way.
My favorite part is when they interrogate him. It’s hilarious.
When the Elves back at Mission Control realize something is wrong, they send out the Elven SWAT Team, E.L.F.S, to break him out.
I always say that line when I see tinsel, “tinsel, not just for decorating.”
So Santa gets out and clears everything up with his ex-wife. Everything ends happily as he goes out to deliver the presents and his ex-wife allows him to see Charlie anytime he wants.
It’s just a great, family film. Beloved by everyone.
Unfortunately, the sequels were not as good. They lacked the same quality of writing and hilarity. Don’t waste your time with them, but watch this one over and over! 😀
I don’t know about you all, but I’m excited for Christmas! If you couldn’t guess already I LOVE holidays and am so excited!!!!!!! EXCITED 😀
As you know I talked about doing an everyday movie post of my favorite Christmas films like I did for Halloween, but I won’t be able to do that until the 13th as I am in crunch time :0 for finals. I haven’t decided what exactly to call it, but thinking around the lines of the Merrymaking and Joy: The 12 Posts of Christmas, but that’s just a tentative title; I’m not fully in love with it and thinking of altering it.
Since I can’t give you a full length post just yet, I thought I’d leave you with a taste!
Even though I can’t stand Mr. Elton, I think he says a true fact about Christmas:
It’s so true. We’ve been having all kinds of storms where I live and yet I had a Christmas party and everyone came out to enjoy it; even braving these stormy elements.
One of the best things about Christmas is that fact that there is such joy and unity in the world. Everyone wants to hang out and spend time together; the parties, caroling, white elephanting, family gatherings, christmas cookies baking, christmas movie watching, etc!
So I hope you are preparing yourself and getting ready to countdown to one of the best holidays throughout the whole entire year.
