Tea Party Tea Terms Word Scramble

Party time!

Are you ready for another Tea Party game?

So for my 29th Birthday Jane Austen Tea Party, I shared a few tea themed games we played. Yesterday we had our tea advent swap with friends and had to come up with a game. I was trying to decide between the Tea Tray Memory Game and a Tea Trivia game, when I decided to do a Tea Terms Word Scramble.

I love doing word scrambles, and thought this would be so much easier as I wouldn’t have to bring any items or worry about it being too hard for anyone (I struggle with making my trivia too hard or too easy).

I also thought this would be a lot of fun, and it did turn out to be. I have the game below if you would like to use it and I have included the answers after the image. Enjoy!

Clotted Cream, kettle, cloth napkins, tea pot, scones, sugar cubes, tea tray, cream pitcher, earl grey, tea infuser, sandwiches, honey dipper, sugar tongs, teapot cozy, and sugar bowl.

Mock Clotted Cream

So a few years ago when I went to visit my college friend she took me to a teahouse she had visited and knew I would love. She was right, I thought it was beautiful, had great food, and since then have gone back every time I return to that area.

The first time I went was the first time I had ever had clotted cream. I thought it was amazing and that scones were one hundred times better with it. In fact it made me just want to keep eating.

Or scones

Since then every time I make scones I wish I have some clotted cream to go with them.

Well you think, that’s easy-just head to the store.

Majorly

You can’t get it in any store around here. I’ve looked online, but it will take ages and you have to order a ton of it.

So after all that, I decided that I would just try to make my own.

This recipe comes from my sister blog, MysteriousEats.wordpress.com.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup of Sour Cream (Can substitute with Plain Greek Yogurt)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 Cup of Heavy Cream
  • 2 Tablespoons of Confectioner’s Sugar (Powdered Sugar)

Directions:

  1. Fold vanilla into sour cream (or yogurt).
  2. Beat heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  3. Fold the sugar into the cream.
  4. Fold this mixture into the vanilla/sour cream (yogurt) mixture.

It was delicious and a perfect addition to tea time.

  11. Bake the scones for 15-20 mins or until the tops are lightly browned.
  12. Serve warm with butter or clotted cream.

We’ve talked about books, we’ve talked about tea, now it is time for something to pair with the two: a scone.

Thoughts Before Cooking:

So I was going to make scones for a tea party and pulled out this recipe I had clipped from an old O- the Oprah magazine.

The magazine article is about Patrice Clayton opening up a tearoom in Harlem. This article must be really old though because the website hasn’t been updated since the mid 2000s and on Yelp it appears that it has closed down. 😦 That’s too bad.

The article gives three versions of the recipe: Baking Powder Scones, Cheddar-Thyme Scones, and Raisin Scones. I only had the ingredients for the Baking Powder one, but I will test out the others and post when I do.

This recipe is designed to go with clotted cream and strawberry jam.

What goes better with a Jane Austen novel than scones? Nothing! As I just love to read my books with a good cup of tea and a scone I just had to reblog this post from my sister blog.

Thoughts Before Baking:

I was going to a tea party and decided to bring some scones. The recipe in The Cat Who… Cookbook, that I got from my brother blog TheCatWhoWroteaBlog.wordpress.com sounded good but I didn’t have all the ingredients needed.

So I had to substitute. Let’s see how these turn out.
