I Will Not Bend, I Will Not Break

It is that time of the year again!

Taking

What time of the year you say? When the stores have sales as they are getting rid of one season’s things to make way for the next!

fashion-show-

So I needed to buy some new shoes to replace my old flats and wedges that were falling apart. I went to Payless as they were having a BOGO sale, buy one and get one half off.

WomanwithGoodShoesNeverUglyCocoChanel

So I went in the store and proceeded to try on every shoe searching for one that fit. This is always the hardest part of shopping, taking things on and off trying to find the perfect and comfortable fit.

BeComfortable

I finally found two pairs of shoes that fit great after searching the whole store.

cinderella_shoe_gif

One was a pair of blue flats orginally 29.99 on sale for $5! You know I can’t resist such a deal!

Double double yay

And some patent leather flats that were orginally 29.99 on sale for 16.99. Ah, patent leather! I just love it so.

I couldn’t wait to put them on and try to break them in.

I love my shoes!

I love my shoes!

There is only one downside to patent leather…

OhNOthisisgonnabebad

It does not bend or give to your foot. Which means that it stays firm and can cause some serious blisters.

ouch Hermione

It was so painful…

The_Wolf_Man_4Crying sad

Yep it was like The Little Mermaid all over again.

the-little-mermaid-hans-christian-andersen

For those who may not have read the Hans Christian Anderson, the real fairy tale, only having seen the Disney version you might not be aware of what I am talking about.

In the actual fairy tale, the little mermaid traded her speech for legs but was also cursed that with every step she took it would feel as if knives were being shoved into her feet. Each step produced incredible pain. Pain she bore because of her love for the prince.

aw cry

It is a great story, I strongly recommend reading the real version.

Anyways, so I know I have had earlier foot/leg pain from exercising or squatting and compared it to this story, but this was the most like it.

It is the truth.

It is the truth.

The way the shoe was designed it was hurting the back of my heel and side of my foot.Oh it was agony. And of course I was at work so I had to pretend to be happy while I was hurting.

Emmafakesmile

But man were they pretty.

hot pretty sexy

But I can’t wait until they are completely broken in and stop blistering my feet; being a perfect fit.

On a side note, have you noticed how often I compare myself to the fairy tale The Little Mermaid? I guess that moviepilot quiz was more accurate than I thought.

A Fashion Statement

So I’ve talked about fashion before:

Fashion

And it’s true, whether we are so deeply invested that we know the designer’s names and collections, to whether we know what we like and that’s what we buy over and over again; everyone has some sort of interest in fashion.

modelblackmailfashion

And with that we have the things we like and dislike; our own little quirks. For instance I hate anything around my neck it bothers me to no end.

BonesMcCoyStarTrekTOSNeckSlingTurtleneck

My sister always makes fun of me for that, but it feels like I am choking.

Choke

I also hate huge clunky bracelets. I have very small wrists so I always have issues getting ones that fit right.

StartrekSpockuncomfortable

Yep, comfort tends to be my number one thing.

BeComfortable

Sometimes it is more fun to just chill out and relax than be in dressed up clothes. I think Cher said it best in Clueless:

Yep:

sweatpantshoodiessexylazy

Although that doesn’t go for my shoes as I love them high.

A Baker’s Four Dozen

woman-cooking

So today I spent the day baking, baking Christmas Cookies!

cookies

The first were called Sand Tarts, which I got from my sister blog Mysterious Eats. They’re posting the recipe next Friday, but gave me a sneak peak. They look good, and seem tasty. You see I could only eat a little bit of each cookie as I’m still recovering from having my wisdom teeth extracted.

ouch Hermione

I was making a dozen for one of my jobs, as this Sunday is their annual Christmas Children’s Program.

19thc_christmas

After I made those I moved on to bake the Regency Ginger Cookies, also from mysteriouseats.wordpress.comfor a Christmas Cookie Party that I am planning on going to. Not only did I want to do them because I’m all about Jane Austen, but figured no one else will do that type of cookie.

janeaustenmiddle

So this morning as I prepared to make four dozen cookies (one for the kids and three for the Christmas Cookie party) I decided, hey I should bake in my pajamas, so I can be comfy.

sweatpantshoodiessexylazy

And then I thought I shouldn’t put on any makeup or do my hair either.

HairaMess

I mean after all I was going to get ingredients all over me, was probably going to make a huge mess I’d have to clean up anyway, etc. I mean why bother?

Majorly

Majorly

But it seems like no one else got the memo. I had people stopping by all day.

Tom-Hanks-Saying-Really

No one ever visits me without calling first, except on the day that I am a super mess.

StoryOfMyLifeSomeLikeItHotMarilynMonroe

It was kind of funny as they looked at me with surprise and shock and how messy and grossly I was dressed.

What are you wearing?

What are you wearing?

But that’s how it goes. And now that I am done cooking, all I want to do is lay down.

i'mtired

I also sampled way too many cookies.

No, stop! Alright.

But hey, Christmas comes but once a year, so live it up!

So I never believed in Santa Claus when I was a kid.

tim-allen-the-santa-clause-police-lineup

It’s not like I hate him or anything or want him gone forever. My parents told me that he lived years ago and died, so the Santa that exists today is more of a feeling than an actual person. But even though I wasn’t a Santa person, I still like a few Christmas Carols that involve him.

One of my favorites is Here Comes Santa Claus (Down Santa Claus Lane). I first sang it back when I was in Girl Scouts and we went into the nursing homes to carol.

It was written in the 1940s by Gene Autry, who got the idea after he was Santa Claus in a parade. Since then it has been covered by numerous artists; like Elvis Presley, Doris Day, and Bing Crosby to name a few.

My favorite version? The one from The Year Without a Santa Claus

A Real Life Saver

So if you have been reading my blog, you know I know a little about fashion:

modelblackmailfashion

But I’m not perfect.

sweatpantshoodiessexylazy

Yep, I don’t always follow what is in or what I should wear, because I like doing my own thing. For instance, my most important accessory is a book.

booksarefashionable

And I don’t always follow the rules. For example, one of the first rules of fashion, “always wear something that fits you”. Well I like wearing oversize clothing every now and then.

oversizeclothingfat

Comfy and slim feeling. But you know what? Oversize clothing once saved my life!

Mal_huh Whoa Wow what

For Reals!

So one of my good friends is a Supernatural fan like me.

supernaturalKansasCOMWS

And of course like any fan, we began to do marathons together.

MyKindOfMarathon

Now while this was all fine and good, there is just one problem. Her dog hates me. And I mean really hates me. Every time I come he barks at me or advances at me. And I don’t know why, animals (except guinea pigs and birds) love me.

Why is this happening?!!

Why is this happening?!!

And this isn’t any ordinary dog. This is a giant great dane who is bigger than me.

AAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Taurean (the dog) is one scary creature.

So far we had had three very successful marathons, and we had some great treats. Popcorn of course

gusPsychpopcorn

Cupcakes, brownies, and then one time my friend Michelle made these really amazing cookies, mamafuku or something like that.

cookies

I’m going to have to get my sister blog, MysteriousEats.wordpress.com to make me some. Anyways as you might have noticed everything was on the snacky side, nothing quite a full meal. So this latest time I thought I would take a pizza.

draculaMonstermovieSupernaturalcoupon

When I got to her house and rang the doorbell, the dogs barked at me as usual. However, this time Taurean pushed past Michelle and came running toward me.

AAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried to back away, but he was too fast and bit my side.

OMG gasp

Yep, I would have been seriously injured if it wasn’t for the fact I had an oversized sweater on. Taurean grabbed that instead of my body, and Michelle was able to grab him and wrestle him to the backyard.

I’m lucky that I choose comfort that day, and am making that a life long choice if I’m to be around any more dangerous company.

For today’s Christmas Carol, I choose the song The First Noel. The song is about the anunciation to the shepherds and the announcement of Jesus’ birth (Luke chapter 2). Noel is an Early Modern Europe term equivalent to Christmas.

No one knows when the poem was first written, but the version we sing today was published in 1823.

It’s short and sweet, and I absolutely love it. Take it away Bing!

10) What You Wore Today

What I wore today wasn’t anything too special. On Tuesdays I have to follow certain parameters. During my first job I work with children ranging from 0-5, so I need to wear something comfortable that I can move in as I will be playing with them; along with doing crafts and setting up the room.

BeComfortable

My second job they keep the rooms at below freezing, so I have to make sure whatever I am wearing will cover my body and keep me warm.

the-wolfman-2010-freezing-therapy

This is what it feels like.

So today I wore jeans, a white shirt; but pumped it up with a brown, three-quarters sleeve, striped jacket. I unfortunately have a baby face, and was using the jacket to class and age the outfit up. Problems only those with a baby face have.

babyfacehowoldareyou

And I topped it off with these cute knee-high brown boots I bought off Amazon for $13. They are hot and were a fantastic price!

And that’s it!

Perfectly Imperfect

makemesick

I agree. Nothing perfect is beautiful, it is those that are unusual and different that hold real beauty.

odd&imperfect

Beauty can be fake, but flaws are real. And those are what truly make up who we are.

flaws

Perfect is boring and I’m glad I don’t have any of that around.

By George He’s Perfect

So Mr. Knightly is perfect for me.

It’s not that big of a surprise for me. 😀 Mr. Knightly is so awesome! He is kind, caring, and it is sooo romantic how he is willing to give up his only chance for true love and happiness because he thinks he isn’t right for Emma. He thinks he’s too old, but I think he’s perfect. I mean he travels through any element to be by Emma’s side; he’s better than the post office.

Mr. Knightly is also wise and an excellent judge of character. After all he is the one to figure out who likes who. The only one he was wrong on was when he thought Emma didn’t care for him. However, he was the only one to figure out the Jane-Frank debacle. He is also always the voice of reason, he is able to stop arguments, along with being able to calmly resolve any situation. For example the fear of being snowed in at the Westons, the canceling of Box Hill, or how to be able to marry Emma but not take her away from her father.

Mr. Knightly is also the perfect gentleman. He cares for Mr. Woodhouse, because he is so in love with Emma He makes sure that Mr. Weston is protected from John Knightly’s vicious tongue. (For more on John Knightly) He also makes sure that Mr. Woodhouse has plenty to occupy himself with during any parties, so that Emma can have time to enjoy herself. He is also willing to give up his home, routine, etc and move in with the Woodhouses, so that Mr. Woodhouse and Emma won’t have to be separated.

EmmaGiveUPHOuse

He also uses his carriage to pick up Miss Bates and Jane so that they don’t have to walk in the cold. How caring and sweet is that!

One of the things I really love about the Mr. Knightly and Emma relationship is how comfortable they are with each other. Since they were friends first, they can really talk to each other along with teasing. This same relationship is seen in Northanger Abbey, and I love it in there as well. All the other Jane Austen relationships don’t have this same kind of closeness.

We know that K is handsome as he has a “tall, firm, upright figure…” Being tall was very important in this time. More info on this later.

He is also an amazing dancer. One of my favorite parts:

“Whom are you going to dance with?’
‘With you, if you will ask me.’
‘Will you?’
‘Indeed i will. you have shewn[sic] that you can dance, and you know we are not really so much brother and sister as to make it improper’
Brother and sister! no, indeed”

I agree when Emma says that he  is “superior..to every other being upon earth…”

I simply LOVED the end of the novel! He gives such a great proposal!

“My dearest Emma…for dearest you will always be, whatever the event of this hour’s conversation, my dearest, most beloved Emma…”

Click here , here, and here for the different movie scenes that show it.

“Within half an hour, he had passed from a thoroughly distressed state of mind, to something so like perfect happiness, that it could bear no other name.”

“She was his own Emma, by hand and word, when they returned into the house; and if he could have thought of Frank Churchill then, he might have deemed him a good sort of fellow.”

Before I read the book I didn’t really care about Mr. Knightly; after reading it I fell head over heels in love with him. Now he is one of my main Austen men. (Coming soon, a post of my rankings of the Austen men). I would recommend any Austenite out there to read and watch the films they are all very good.
