To Fandom With Love

Yes my friends we have finally reached the end of these fandom posts. For some you may be sad, while others may rejoice that we are done.

But how do you close a posts like these? Ones that talk about fandoms you love? How do you truly show how wonderful they have been? Well in the words of Eric Matthews (Boy Meets World) “I could tell you what I think about you, but it would just come out a bunch of words. And I know, nobody could say it better than a little girl named Lulu” (with my help of changing the words slightly).

Those school girl days of telling tales
And biting nails are gone
But in my mind I know
They will still live on and on
But how do you thank someone
Who has taken you from crayons to blogging?
It isn’t easy, but I’ll try
If you wanted the sky
I would write across the sky in letters
That would soar a thousand feet high
To Fandom, with love
A Fandom who taught me right from wrong
And weak from strong
That’s a lot to learn, what
can I give you in return?
If you wanted the moon
I would try to make a star
But I, would rather you let me give my heart
To Fandom, with love

 Wishbone

Wishbone was such an awesome show. It made a huge impact on my life and made me interested in classic literature.

The show was about a dog named Wishbone, his master Joe and his mom (Joe’s dad passed away) and his friends Sam and David. In every episode it covered something happening with the characters and related it to a classic. When Wishbone would tell the story, he would always be the main character.

They did Robin Hood, Pride & Prejudice (which I will be reviewing), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Rip Van Winkle, Ivanhoe, Frankenstein, just to name a few. It was an excellent show.

I can’t stop watching!

They also had a fantastic book series that tied in to the show which was just as good. All of them made reading seem like so much fun, and encouraged us all to do it.

I wish they had more shows like that on TV now for kids. Or put it up on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Whitechapel

I came upon Whitechapel when I was browsing Amazon Prime  and thought it sounded interesting, plus starred Rupert Penry Jones who plays Captain Fredrick Wentworth in Persuasion (2007).

I started watching and was immediately HOOKED!

This DI (Detective Inspector) Joe Chandler is sent to Whitechapel, London. At first he encounters issues as he cleans up the department (literally as he is a germophobe). Others are upset that they choose to bring someone new in, rather than promote one of them.

Someone is killing in the manner of Jack the Ripper and DI Chandler mobilizes his whole team to try and catch him.

It was amazingly well written, and the following seasons were just as good. But sadly, like Copper, it didn’t last more than three. I don’t know why as it was fantastic!

X-Files

x-files

I loved the X-Files. I started watching because my sister was into it, but it quickly became something I adored as well. It is about FBI Agent Fox Mulder who is the one who investigates anything unusual or strange in the country. He has made quite a lot of enemies and is paired with the always logical doctor, FBI Agent Dana Scully.

To see who you are, go here.

To see who you are, go here.

She quickly fell for him, just as the viewers did, and becomes sucked into the craziness of the X-Files.

I love David Duchovny…

So romantic!

And had to stop watching when he left/was abducted by aliens. I know they came out with a new version of the show, but I haven’t seen it. I’m scared it won’t be as good.

X-Men

x-men

I am  a HUGE X-Men fan. I started getting into them through the Saturday morning cartoon show and from there I got into the comic books, X-Men Evolution, etc. I’ve read the X-Men Encyclopedia a gazillion times, and don’t get me started on how awesome they are or you will never be able to shut me up. My favorites have to be Gambit and Rogue, they are the absolute best.

Young Justice

Young Justice

This show wasn’t around a real long time (sadly only two seasons) but was AMAZING!!!! It told the story of the younger group of DC characters and was totally awesome.

We have Conner, a clone of Superman who not only wants to know more about being like him, but how to be anyone. It’s hard when so much of you is based off another person, and because of the mix of human DNA you aren’t even exactly like him.

M’gann, Jon the Manhunter’s niece, who wants so desperately to fit in on Earth and has a secret she’s keeping from everyone else.

Artemis, half-Vietnamese girl who is trying to go down a different path than her father.

Robin, trying to live up the caped crusader who gives him a home, while at the same time finding his own place in the world.

Kid Flash, nephew to the Flash, and an extremely smart and overactive kid. Not only has he recreated the accident that gave Barry his powers, but is eager to be just as good a crime fighter.

Aqualad, super cool as he has had an incredible upgrade in his powers.

I hate that they canceled it after the second season as the characters are awesome, the story-telling incredible and much more adult as the characters grow, and intensely suspenseful. Loved it!

Another TV show canceled too early.

Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons

frankivalli

So yesterday’s post on December, 1933 (Oh What A Night), made me realize something. I had totally skipped over this band in my earlier fan posts. How could I forget the wonderful Frankie Valli?

What can I say about Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons? Their music is amazing! I absolutely love it and could listen to it again and again.

OldiesButGoodies

I think my love for the group started when I heard Big Girls Don’t Cry in Dirty Dancing. From there my favorite songs grew to Candy Girl, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Grease, Let’s Hang On (To What We Got), Sherry and Working My Way Back to You.

I just love Frankie’s voice. It is not perfectly melodic, but so musically interesting and beautiful that I love it.

Sarah Dessen

HighstandardsExtraordinary

I am a huge Sarah Dessen fan. I started reading her books when I bought a copy of Someone Like You from the library bookstore. From there, that was it. I was in the Dessen fanclub and owner of practically every book she has written. They became a huge part of me.

booksaremyfriends

Something that Sarah Dessen does that is unique to her writing, is that she likes to connect all her work together. Make small little briges through all the novels. One summer I went through, reading with a fine tooth comb and finding every possible connection.

fangirl casual fan diehard fan consume me love it

That Summer- This is one of my least favorites in her collection. It isn’t a horrible book or anything, but not as strong as the other novels, in my opinion. That Summer is the story of 15 year old Haven living in a world that is rapidly changing. Her father has divorced her mother and is remarrying the weather girl. Her fun-loving, always out there sister is marrying a boring guy and going to set out on a boring, bland life. Haven’s best friend has just returned from camp boy-crazier than ever and with a long distance boyfriend. And Haven can’t stop growing, being almost six-feet tall. All she wants is to go back.

TimeWhenNotBroken

Then an old boyfriend of Ashley’s comes back into the picture; maybe he can take things back to how they used to be?

These are the things I’ve found so far that refer back to That Summer

Someone Like You:
One of Ashley’s old boyfriends dies in a motorcycle accident just like Scarlett’s boyfriend Michael does.
Sumner works at a market with Kiwis just like Michael Sherwood does.
Also set in Lakeview

Keeping the Moon:
Haven’s family spent a whole summer at a beach in the past, which is just what Colie does.
Ashley dated a guy named Frank and Isabelle dates one in Keeping the Moon.

Dreamland:
Ashley was a cheerleader just like Caitlin becomes.
Also set in Lakeview
Corrina drives a VW bug. In That Summer Sumner drives one too.
Cass spends a whole summer at the beach. Haven’s family spent a whole summer at the beach in the past.
In Caitlan’s dream she goes to the Lakeview Mall. Lakeview Mall is where Haven had her first job at.

This Lullaby:
Set in Lakeview
Casey sends Haven letters on pink stationary with silver ink. Lissa’s soon-to-be roommate writes to her on pink stationary with silver ink.

The Truth About Forever:
Lorna MacPhail, Haven’s stepmother, is the weather woman who had no idea that the freak storm would occur. This freak storm disturbs Macy’s mom’s plans to have a big house selling party outside forcing her to have a nervous breakdown.
Set in Lakeview

Just Listen:
Also set in Lakeview.
Gwendolyn was one of the orginal Lakeview models, something Annabelle becomes later.
Annabelle and family would go to the beach a lot for summer. Haven’s family used to spend summers at the beach.

Lock and Key:

Whatever Happened to Goodbye:

McLean’s mom cheats on her dad, and gets remarried. She gets pregnant too soon. Haven’s dad cheats on her mom and he remarries. His new wife gets pregnant too soon too
The Moon and More:
Haven’s family spent a whole summer at a beach in the past, Emmaline lives in a beachtown.

Someone Like You- Ever since Scarlett moved across the street from Halley the two have been best friends. The summer before their junior year, Scarlett starts dating Michael Sherwood, the most popular guy in school. When he dies in a motorcycle accident, the two stand through it together.

Friends-Best-Friends

But when Scarlett discovers that she is pregnant and decides to keep the baby, will the two be able to handle all of life’s changes?

Halley also has been having issues with her mother. It seems that she wants to control her more and more, making her the perfect example for one of her psychology books. Things become even more strained when Halley starts dating Macon, Michael’s best friend and one of the popular kids. But things are not always what they seem, and the things we want may not always be the things we truly desire.

This is one of my favorites as it was my gateway into Dessen’s work. I just love the characters and the story and still read it once a year.

These are the things I’ve found refer back to Someone Like You.

That Summer:
One of Ashley’s old boyfriends dies in a motorcycle accident just like Scarlett’s boyfriend Michael does.
Sumner works at a market with Kiwis just like Michael Sherwood does.
It is set in Lakeview

Emmaline’s mom gets pregnant in high school, just like Scarlett.

Keeping the Moon– Colie has always been overweight like her mother. She liked the extra bundles as it made her feel as if she had a shield against the attacks of the world. She and her mom, Kiki, drove from place to place, job to job; always moving where they wanted to. That all changed when her mom hit a car in a gym parking lot and and had to work off the debt. She joins in the workouts, loses tons of weight, becomes an instructor, and from there a millionaire with Kiki Sparks videos and products going across the country. Colie is now stuck in a town she doesn’t like, in which the girls pick on her everyday; even though she no longer is overweight. This summer her mother is going on an international tour to spread the Kiki Spark’s gospel, and Colie will be spending it with her aunt she hasn’t seen in years. At first Colie hates living with her fatty food loving aunt, in a house where everything is broken down as they only need some TLC, and where a strange artist/handyman, Norman resides. But as Colie starts working with Norman and two other girls, Morgan and Isabelle, at the Last Chance Cafe; she may just discover more about herself and what beauty and confidence really mean.

beautyofawoman

This is another one that I absolutely love. The character, story, and just everything about it is really great. I read this one at least once a year as well.

These are the things I’ve found refer back to Keeping the Moon. This one is a bit harder as it takes place away from Lakeview, and some might be a bit of a stretch, but they do connect.

That Summer:
Isabelle dates a Frank, Ashley dated a Frank in That Summer. Haven’s family spends a whole summer at a beach just like Colie does

Someone Like You: Haley buys Macon a pair of Ray Bans. In Keeping the Moon, Norman has a pair of Ray Bans in his sunglasses collection.

Dreamland:
Boo wears her hair up in chopsticks just like Mira does in Keeping the Moon.
Colie’s family lives near the golf course. Rogerson’s family does too in Dreamland.
Cass spends a whole summer at the beach. Colie does too.
Norman has an older brother who is living up to his father’s expectations. Norman is the black sheep in the family and picked on by his father. In Dreamland, Rogerson has an older brother who is living up to his parents expectations, the black sheep of the family, and abused by his father.
Norman has a huge dissertation on sunglasses; one may hide behind them, accessorize with them, etc. In Dreamland, Caitlan uses them to hide behind and Rina to accessorize.

This Lullaby:
Colie lives in VA with her mom. Truth Squad announces that they have just come from VA.

The Truth About Forever:
Macy’s family has a beach house in Colby. The waitresses at Last Chance restaurant know him by name.
Macy also celebrates the 4th of July.
Norman walks with a slow loping gait. So does Wes in The Truth About Forever.

Just Listen:

McLean’s dad walks in a slow gait like Norman.
Like Colie, McLean becomes a waitress.
Heather’s dad loves moon pies. Norman loves moon pies too.

The Moon and More:
Both stories take place in Colby.
Eats at Last Chance a few times, also where Luke broke up with her. Colie is her waitress.
Norman walks with a slow loping gait. So does Morris.

Dreamland-Caitlan has always lived in her older sister Cass’s shadow. Cass has done it all and excelled at everything. This year Cass is off to Yale and Caitlan believes she can finally have something that is her own. It is her birthday, but instead if celebrating Caitlan it is once again all about Cass. Cass has run away with her boyfriend and not going to Yale at all. Caitlan sets out to start her next year, in an even bigger shadow; Cass’s missing one. Caitlan then joins cheerleading and dates Rogerson Biscoe, all very different from anything Cass would ever do. Being with Rogerson makes everything better as she finally has something that is hers and focused on her. But what happens when Rogerson becomes the problem instead of the answer.

This is one of Dessen’s best. I have never read anything that so clearly described why women become attracted to men who abuse them, and why they stay when they know they should leave. It is amazingly poignant and a real page turner.

These are the things I’ve found refer back to Dreamland.

That Summer:
Ashley was a cheerleader just like Caitlin becomes in Dreamland.
Set in Lakeview too.
Corrina drives a VW bug. In That Summer Sumner drives one too.

But when she throws out some affection in her email and doesn’t fulfill Jason’s expectations at the library, she finds herself single again. After a chance encounter, she finds herself working for a catering group full of characters she never would have thought would become her friends. From Delia, the owner who believes imperfections are needed in life; Wes the former juvenile delinquent turned artist; Bert the serious Armageddon fan; Monica the one that never talks, and Kristy,  scarred but survivor of a fatal accident and always out to live life.

I love this book. Macy is someone you just connect to, the friends are people I wish were my pals; and oh, Wes. If only you were real.

She starts working for her stepmom, she is introduced to girls and their world, a place she has never been before. One day when she is out with them; she meets Eli, a guy who has been so wounded he hasn’t been able to be around anyone. But as the two are insomniacs, Auden and Eli team up to be the most unlikely pairs; as Eli teaches Auden how to be a kid, and Auden sets out to ride her first bike.

The Moon and More- Emaline and Luke have grown up together in Colby and joke around about how they will be getting married. However, Luke has different plans and breaks up with Emaline. Shortly after, she finds her life occupied by a film crew renting some of her parent’s beach houses. They are trying to make a documentary about the town’s reclusive artist. Theo, the film student and assistant, is from New York and seems sophisticated and exciting, and believes that Emaline is too good for her little town. With Emaline being pulled in all directions by her stepdad, father, mother, Theo, and friends…what choice will she make? Which of these is her moon?

This is my least favorite in the series. I felt like the characters weren’t as unique and developed. I also didn’t like how the girl broke up with her boyfriend of four years and was like an hour later I’m fine and over him. Seriously? It wasn’t horrible, but just not the caliber I expected.

These are the things I found that relate to The Moon and More.

That Summer:
One of Ashley’s old boyfriends dies in a motorcycle accident. Rachel Gertman, friend of Emmaline’s sis Amber, was in a bike accident but just had to go to rehab. Doesn’t specify what type of bike for Rachel though.
Haven’s family spent a whole summer at a beach in the past, Emmaline leaves in a beachtown.
Someone Like You:
Rachel Gertman, friend of Emmaline’s sis Amber, was in a bike accident just like Michael, although michael died and Rachel just had to go to rehab. Doesn’t specify what type of bike for Rachel though.
Emmaline’s mom gets pregnant in high school, just like Scarlett.
Keeping the Moon:
Both stories take place in Colby.
Eats at Last Chance a few times, also where Luke broke up with her. Colie is her waitress.
Norman walks with a slow loping gait. So does Morris.

Dreamland:
Rachel Gertman, friend of Emmaline’s sis Amber, was in a bike accident had to go to rehab. Caitlain had to go to rehab for her drug and emotional/physical abuse from her boyfriend.
Cass spends a whole summer at the beach. Emmaline lives in a beachtown.
Boo and Stewart teach at the U, while Caitlan’s Dad is dean of students. U is where Emaline is going to college.

This Lullaby:
When Emmaline was feeling stressed out over Theo, she goes to Jump Java to clear her mind. Scarlett and John Miller worked at Jump Java in TL.
TL takes place the summer before Remy goes to college, just like Emmaline.
Lissa’s going to U, Emmaline will be going there in the fall as well.
The Truth About Forever:
The caterer Robin says “everyone loves meatballs” just like Delia always said in TAF.
Underage Morris is a bartender for the event, such as Wes.

Luke, Emmaline’s ex, is Wes and Bert’s cousin.
Emmaline and Luke play Gotcha! They were taught by Wes and Bert.
Like Macy, Emmaline always wears an elastic on her wrist.
The waitresses at Last Chance restaurant know Macy’s father by name. Emmaline goes to Last Chance all the time.
Wes walks with a slow, loping gait; just like Morris.
In the beginning of TAF Macy helps out with the catering because a server moves so slow and not doing well. Emmaline helps out with a catering when Morris is moving too slow and not doing anything.
Caroline went to U, and it is where Emmaline is attending in the fall.

Just Listen:
Annabelle and family would go to the beach a lot for summer. Emmaline leaves in a beachtown.
Male model who gives Annabelle his number goes to U, Emmaline will be attending there in the fall.
A girl named Esther emcees the poetry and other readings at the coffee shop, Jump Java. Whitney goes there to read her memoir. In Along for the Ride, Auden’s friend Esther, loves to go to coffee shops to hear readings. Esther films the art show for Emmaline and Ivy.
Heather Wainwright has a Jump Java coffee. Jump Java is where Emmaline goes to clear her head when Theo distresses her.
Lock and Key:
Benji and Emmaline’s grandma are putting the realty on UME so people can like the page. Emmaline and others have UME pages. Ruby’s brother-in-law created UME.
Emmaline’s mom gets pregnant in high school, just like Ruby’s mom.
Cora and Jamie went to U; Ruby, Gervais, and Nate are going to U. Emmaline is going to U in the fall.
Along for the Ride:
Auden’s friend Esther film’s Clyde, Ivy, & Emmaline’s party.
Emmaline goes to parties at the Tip. The Tip was were Auden had her embarrassing first night.
Clyde hangs out with Emmaline. Clyde met Auden when she was on her “quest”. He made pie for her too in his laundromat.

Auden goes to visit her Dad and Stepmom in Colby. Emmaline lives in Colby.
Auden eats at Last Chance so does Emmaline.
Auden mom teaches at U. Emmaline will be attending in the fall.
AFTR takes place the summer before Auden attends college. So does M&M.
Daisy & Emmaline win best dressed at the Beach Bash. Heidi throws the Beach Bash every year.
Heidi is friends with Emmaline’s mom, Emily.
Auden and Eli shop at Park Mart. So does Emmaline.
Whatever Happened to Goodbye:
Knows Rachel Gertman who makes the Gert bracelets. McClean and her mom have a ton, they were a tradition when they went to Colby beach. Dave bought one too.
Peter bought McLean’s mom a house in Colby. Colby is where Emmaline lives.
McLean’s dad walks in a slow gait like Morris.
Guy next door to McLean goes to U, McLean and Dave also attend U. Emmaline will be attending U in the fall.
McLean goes to Jackson High like Caitlan.
McLean gets a coupon to Jump Java from Deb, Emmaline goes to Jump Jave to clear her head about Theo.
McLean and Emmaline shop at Park Mart.
Heidi is friends with McLean’s mom. Heidi and Emmaline’s mom are friends.

Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers

POWER RANGERS!!!! HECK YEAH!

I love it

Growing up the Power Rangers were awesome! Regular kids chosen to fight aliens and protect the earth, transforming into the Power Rangers and riding in robots called Zords.

My friends and I used to act out the adventures in the TV show, along with creating our own. My favorite was Kimberly, the pink ranger.

pink ranger kimberlypowerrangers

And I loved Tommy the Green Ranger/Gold Ranger. He first starts off as bad, recruited to destroy the Rangers, but then redeems himself. He ends up losing his powers, and the Green Ranger is gone, coming back as the extremely awesome Gold Ranger. Not only was Tommy the best fighter, with the coolest weapons (eventually becoming the leader) but he was also super hot. I had such a crush on him.

swoon dreamy

They made a movie, The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie, were they had to fight a creature so terrible, Ivan Ooze, he takes down Zordon. I just loved that movie so much as a kid. I used to watch it over and over again.

watch movie over and over

I had the whole film memorized and we used to act it out all the time. In fact I remember getting in trouble once with a parent for dismantling the brooms so that one of us could have the noise sticks that Dulcea uses.

I watched Power Rangers up until Power Rangers: Mystic Force. When Kimberly and Jason left and they brought in Cat, it went down hill for me. The other seasons were alright, but the only one that was any good being Dino Thunder because they brought Tommy back.

I heard they are doing a movie reuniting most of the original cast and I hope they do!

The Partridge Family

So if you just read these fandom posts, you probably think I am some immortal being a teen in the ’70s as well as the ’90s; from all these ’70s shows I used to watch. Nope, I’m not a time traveler or vampire, I loved TV LAND, yep I used to watch it back when they showed old TV shows.

This show stared Shirley Jones as Shirley Partridge, widowed mother of five. When her kids want to try a record deal, she goes along and before you know it, they are a hit. They get a manager, a bus, and go touring all over the country.

This show also starred David Cassidy, Jones’ stepson, as the eldest child and heartthrob.

hot pretty sexy

I used to watch it every day and knew all the songs by The Partridge Family by heart. In fact this show had such a huge impact on me, that when I saw David Cassidy was going to be in a new musical series, Ruby & The RockitsIt was horrible writing, but I suffered through for my childhood nostalgia.

 The Rocky Series

rockyworthgogetit

Aw Rocky. How I love you, and all your films. Well, except Creed as I have yet to see it. I started watching these films one 4th of July weekend when AMC had a marathon. I watched one, then another and another and another.

MyKindOfMarathon

And I loved them. Sylvester Stallone did a great job with this series.

Rocky (1976)

rocky

So let my start by wishing this film a very happy anniversary as it will be turning 40 on November 21st.

So the film Rocky was Slyvester Stallone’s first film. He was struggling as an actor, homeless, only having $106, and had even sold his dog. When the company was interested he wouldn’t give the script up until they agreed to have him as the star. They declined, but when they couldn’t get the script, they finally agreed.

It was shot in 28 days and had an extremely little budget. Stars had to share rooms, they filmed the street scenes guerilla style and with no permits or extras. Most of the wardrobe was furnished by the actors, and ones purchased were wrong. The lack of money for extras, caused them to rewrite some scenes and make due.

But not only was it nominated for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Sound, & Best Original Song; and won Best Picture, Best Director, & Best Film Editing: but it was the highest grossing film of the year. Not bad Stallone, not bad.

So Rocky is the story of Robert “Rocky” Balboa, a man who dreams of becoming a boxer star, going the distance, but has yet to get his chance. He works as an enforcer for a loan shark, but is too nice a guy to actually “enforce”. Everything changes when boxing star Apollo Creed decides that he wants to box an ordinary joe, giving a nobody the chance to be a somebody, and choosing Rocky. While Rocky works out for the chance of a lifetime, he dates his best friend’s sister, Adrian, becoming one of the sweetest couples in film history.

This story is not only amazing uplifting, as everyone can connect to a man trying to achieve his dreams, it has some truly poetic and realistic scenes. Besides the ice-skating with Adrian, and running up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum (so great it gets parodied again and again), but the fact that Stallone choose to have Rocky loose the fight; showing his achievements in trying to be the true victory is truly poignant and fantastic.

This also had the incredible song, Gonna Fly Now written by Bill Conti as it’s theme. How can you not be inspired when listening to that?

Rocky II

After the first film, Apollo is angry at the way that Rocky held his own against him in the match. Apollo demands a rematch, as he wants to peove that he is the true champ, Rocky just a fluke. Meanwhile, since the fight Rocky has been boosted in popularity. He doesn’t want to fight Apollo again, but due to his goading and Rocky’s lack of money, he agrees. Can he truly go the distance? Can he be a contender?

Rocky III

This is the first of the film series to have a Survivor song in it, this one of course having the amazing Eye of the Tiger.

So it has been three years since Rocky II. Since then Rocky has had successful fights and an increase in wealth for him and his family. As they are unveiling a statue of him, he gets called out by Clubber Lang, played by Mr. T. When Rocky questions Mickey, he discovers that Clubber Lang’s accusations were correct. His fights were handpicked to protect him. Rocky doesn’t want to fight Lang, but when he pushes Mickey and causes him to have a heart attack, dying, Rocky knows he has no other chance then to avenge Mickey’s death. He asks Apollo Creed to train him, and the two team up to get that “eye of the tiger” back.

Rocky IV

Ivan Drago (Dolph Lungren) is a 6’5 Russian Boxer brought to America to promote the U.S.S.R.’s superiority. They throw out a challenge that he can beat anyone, and Apollo agrees to an exhibition match. Apollo arrives with a huge show stopping number done by James Brown. Drago doesn’t take this match as “just an exhibition” and kills Creed. With his best friend dead, Rocky decides he must avenge his death, traveling to Russia to fight Drago there.

Rocky V

After the fight with Drago, Rocky decides to retire from boxing. He had some permanent damage from the fight, and to add to the bad news he lost all his money due to a bad accountant. Rocky turns to training boxers, taking in a young guy off the street, Tommy Gunn. He helps him, and as Gunn starts moving up the ranks he catches the eye of another manager and leaves Rocky behind. Rocky is upset at the betryal, but Adraian tells him that Gunn is not worth it, as he doesn’t have any real heart. Gunn decides the only way to prove his true mettle is to take down Rocky. He tries to get him to fight, but Rocky won’t. When Gunn takes a sock at Paulie, Rocky changes his mind and starts training to cut him down.

Rocky Balboa (Rocky VI)

The sixth film takes place 20 years after the fifth film. One of the reasons Stallone decided to make this film, was that many people were dissatisfied with the ending of Rocky V, as it didn’t have a true wrap up to the series. In this Rocky is a widower, with an Italian resturant. He is in deep grief over the death of Adrian and has a struggling relationship with his son who wishes to be not known as Rocky’s son or have any connection to boxing. He reunites with grown up “Little Marie” from Rocky (1976).  Meanwhile ESPN has done a Deadliest Warrior type show in which they analyze boxers from past, running the stats, victories, and teaming them up with present boxers. When Rocky wins against Mason “The Line” Dixon, Dixon gets enraged and Rocky decides to take up boxing again. This prompts the fight of fights as the two head off.

A lot of people didn’t like this film, but I thought it was a cute shout out to the fans. I loved the way they decided to conclude it. If Rocky had lost the fight, it would have been horrible as no one wants to see an older man get beat up. And if Rocky had won, it would have been unbelievable. Having a tie was not only a call back to the first film’s idea that victory was in trying to achieve your dreams, but also a way to appease all.

As I wrote before I have yet to watch Creed, but I will hit on that when I watch it.

Scooby-Doo

I LOVED SCOOBY-DOO

I love it

I used to watch Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, A Pup Named Scooby-DooThe New Scooby-Doo Movies (in which Scooby-Doo meets the Harlarm Globetrotters, Cher, Sonny Bono, Batman, Robin, Josie & the Pussycats, etc.), The New Scooby-Doo, What’s New Scooby-Doo.

My favorite of course was Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?. I used to watch the show all the time and had four birthday parties be Scooby-Doo themed. I had a huge collection of Scooby-Doo toys, from my own mystery machine and multiple Scooby-Doos; to a clock, clothes, books, and almost anything else you can think of.

fangirl casual fan diehard fan consume me love it

I also was a fan of the Scooby-Doo films. I loved Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf, Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers, Scooby-Doo! in Arabian Nights, Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders, Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase, etc.

I saw the two Scooby-Doo theatrical films and thought they were okay. The first had an alright storyline, but I didn’t like the thought of “real monsters” and felt they didn’t capture the heart of the show. Besides Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred Jones and Sarah Michelle Geller as Daphne, I was sorely disappointed.

Something is not right!

So let’s talk about the characters:

Fred Jones

splitupScoobyDoo

Fred Jones was the leader of the teen group. He was always eager to get involved in a mystery and was a keen observer. His take charge attitude always made him be the one to figure out a plan to catch the cause of the crime, although Scooby or Shaggy’s antics would usually mess them up. He was the “straight man of the group” the one who complimented the crazy antics of Scooby and Shaggy, along with being the rock of the group.

Daphne Blake

makehimpayhairDaphneScoobyDoo

Daphne Blake is often thought of as the beautiful socialite who was only interested in looks and getting kidnapped. That is not true! While Daphne tends to be the one that got captured, if anyone gets kidnapped, it didn’t happen in every episode. She was also ntelligent, proving her worth in solving the crimes, alongside Fred and Velma.

*Fun Fact*-The Mystery Machine was actually Daphne’s 16th Birthday present. Why Fred is the one driving, I don’t know.

Velma Dinkley

Velma_Werewolves

Velma is the brain of the group, being the researcher and the one to find the final clue that ties everything together. Unlike Daphne, she is a more comedic character; having puns and great sarcastic wit. She also was always losing her glasses, struggling to see; they usually found by whatever creature they are hunting or her searching for them causing that creature to trip over her.

Norville “Shaggy” Rogers

Scooby-Doo

Now contrary to popular belief, Shaggy is not a drug addict. The creators of the show were trying to hit every group when they made the show; Fred the jock, Daphne the princess, Velma the brain, etc. As Shaggy can’t be the criminal, because they are solving crimes, they wanted him to be the type of new culture coming out that “surfer-“hey man”-hippieish-type-dude”. Shaggy is a sweet guy that is interested in food and music. He is a scaredy-cat, never wanting to get involved with monsters or criminals, but always there in the final stretch. He and Scooby played the comedic roles, always accidentally getting involved with something, accidentally bringing new evidence to light, or accidentally catching the criminals.

Scooby-Doo

scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo was adopted by Shaggy and is “his” dog, but in reality Scooby doesn’t even consider himself a dog as he is so advanced. Scooby can talk, think, and loves to eat. He often steals somebody’s meal, typically Shaggy. Scooby is a total coward, but in the end will come through for his friends, as long as he is given a Scooby snack. He assists Shaggy with the comedy, helping them accidentally foil any plans made by the criminals. He and Shaggy are the only characters to appear in every TV show & film.

Avengers Assemble

So I’m sure some of you are wondering what happened to the fandom posts? Why have I stopped doing them?

Well, I wanted to do a post on how great I think Cecilia Gray is. She not only liked my review of her book Fall For You (Jane Austen Academy #1). After that I stopped as I was feeling kind of under the weather.

WakeUpNoThankYou

I was feeling tired all the time, but that grew into a headache and sore throat. But then on Thursday morning I couldn’t hear out of my right ear.

OhNOthisisgonnabebad

That’s it, I need to go to the doctors. I wanted to put it off as I hate doctors, but figured I’d better go and get it looked at.

doctorhatedoctors

I know it takes forever!! So I had to wait, and wait and wait and wait and wait…….

I'mwaitingPrincessBride

Finally the nurse saw me and it turned out that I had an ear infection and a fever of 100.3. It was funny as after the nurse took my temperature, she asked me if I knew I had been running around with that high a fever.

uh-no-gif

When I was younger I used to get fevers of 103 & 104. 100.3 is nothing.

I-got-this-reaction-gif

So the doctor finally saw me and gave me a prescription and sent me on my way. I had been waiting forever, but the actual time of the doctors was like 10 minutes. How is that fair?

whatsthedeal

And then you have to wait an hour for the pharmacy. Yuck.

So there was one big problem with being sick. I had tickets to see the Avengers: Age of Ultron, the midnight showing.

AvengersAgeofultron

Oh yeah!

Oh yeah!

But you know what? Being sick wasn’t going to stop me, yep I was going to see that movie even though I had a fever and could hear out of only one ear!

thinkGeek

That’s because I’m a true geek and hardcore fan.

Fangirl

When I got to the theater, I was the only one in my party. You see, since I’ve moved back home I don’t really see people my age. There was one guy I befriended, but he wanted to move on to dating, and I wasn’t really interested in him. So there was no one else I knew who’d be down for a midnight showing.

When I went to turn in my receipt from buying the ticket online, they guy asked me all shocked like-“only one?”. I felt sooooo embarrassed.

So embarressed

So embarressed

Like Josie in Never Been Kissed when she wants to go on the ferris wheel. It made me feel like a loser.

no friendsneverleavehouse

But that was short lived as I’m okay being alone.

talonePartyMeBySelf

And I was really excited to see the movie.

excited

So now you are probably wondering what I thought of it. There were some things I had a problem with (one particular death of which I won’t say but thought was stupid to have!!!!), but on the whole I loved it and am seeing it again tonight.

AvengersAssemble

I actually am reserving the rest of my thoughts for a later post. As Tony Stark and Bruce Banner create not one but two creatures, you can argue that this is a horror film, mad scientists creating monsters. So I will be bringing back the Avengers: Age of Ultron in October, during Horrorfest IV.
