Shook Me All Night Long

You Shook Me All Night Long from Back in Black by AC/DC

So this song is about sex.

Casual_sex_poster1988

I mean some is innuendo, but a majority of the song just puts it out there.

Mal_huh Whoa Wow what

So why do I like this song? I mean Im not really into that sort of thing?

Not from Awkward but the emotion fits.

I know it surprises me too. I just love this song. It’s like when you don’t like certain ingredients at all, and then this one dish that combines them you will eat. Or when you like a person and they are nothing at all like your usual type. You don’t know why it works in this case, but it does.

loveitSupernatural

In this case, I know why. It is the music, particularly the guitar.

BacktothefutureMartyMcflyrocknrollguitarsolo

When I hear that guitar it is like a chemical reaction, I am just so pumped. I like it even better than the lyrics. Not to mention the epic solo:

What can I say, AC/DC knows how to rock my musical world.

22) Here I Go Again by Whitesnake

Now if I had to pick my favorite song, absolutely had to pick one it would be this one. I love this song so, so, so, so, so much.

favsong

This is the song that has gotten me through everything. Any horrible events, broken friendships, break ups, moving, and making any drastic changes. It always helps empower me and make me feel like I can get through anything.

The song came out in 1982, but then was re-recorded and released in 1987. The 1987 version is the one I love. It was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 17 on VH1‘s 100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s.

The song was written by  the lead singer, David Coverdale, and former Whitesnake guitarist, Bernie Marsden

I just feel that this song is absolutely amazing! I cannot stress that enough. I included it at this point in the breakup list as I feel it goes perfectly after the last song. Here you are going on with your life. Here you go on your own. You are making a vow to not wasting anymore time moping and crying. Here I go again. 🙂

I don’t know where I’m going
But, I sure know where I’ve been
Hanging on the promises
In songs of yesterday
An’ I’ve made up my mind,
I ain’t wasting no more time
But, here I go again
Here I go again

hereIgoagainWhitesnake

Tho’ I keep searching for an answer,
I never seem to find what I’m looking for
Oh Lord, I pray
You give me strength to carry on,
‘Cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams

brokenhearted

An’ here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An’ I’ve made up my mind
I ain’t wasting no more time

hereIgoagainWhitesnake

I’m just another heart in need of rescue,
Waiting on love’s sweet charity
An’ I’m gonna hold on
For the rest of my days,
‘Cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams

HereIGoAgainWhitesnake

An’ here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An’ I’ve made up my mind
I ain’t wasting no more time

But, here I go again,
Here I go again,
Here I go again,
Here I go…

An’ I’ve made up my mind,
I ain’t wasting no more time

An’ here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
‘Cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams

An’ here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An’ I’ve made up my mind
I ain’t wasting no more time…

But, here I go again,
Here I go again,
Here I go again,
Here I go,
Here I go again…

And I have to say that I also absolutely love the version by Rock of Ages.

13) Gone Forever by Three Days Grace

So I had heard some of Three Days Grace before I dated my ex. I remember their song Pain, when I was growing up but didn’t really get into the music until my ex lent me this CD and I listened to it, and of course loved it. Plus I love the lead singer and guitarist Adam Gontier. You know me and my weakness for tall, dark, handsome, long-haired guitarists.

Anyways the song covers what you think it would from the title. The song is about a guy who has ended a relationship, and while he is originally sad, he knows that it is better as that person is out of his life and gone forever.

bettertoend

I love this song coming after Missing Youas in Missing You the guy is sad and says that he isn’t missing her and happy that it ended, but at the same time it has a hint that he isn’t completely over the woman who broke his heart. In Gone Forever, the guy is stating that I’m much happier now that, that particular person is out of his life. However, when reading and hearing you can tell that he isn’t completely over the person. He is doing better, but still angry at his ex and hasn’t reached complete acceptance.

Don’t know what’s going on
Don’t know what went wrong
Feels like a hundred years I
Still can’t believe you’re gone
So I’ll stay up all night
With these bloodshot eyes
While these walls surround me with the story of our life

Now that you’re gone forever
I tell myself that I don’t miss you at all
I’m not lying, denying that I feel so much better now
That you’re gone forever

Now things are coming clear
And I don’t need you here
And in this world around me
I’m glad you disappeared
So I’ll stay out all night
Get drunk and f*****’ fight
Until the morning comes I’ll
Forget about our life

I should have made you leave
I should have known it could be so much better
I hope you’re missing me
I hope I’ve made you see

11) For a Pessimist, I’m Pretty Optimistic by Paramore

So as I mentioned before Paramore was a band I got into recently and love. This album Riot! has a lot of songs that deal with heartbreak, such as That’s What You Getwhich I did an earlier post on. I just love this song because I feel that it captures how one feels after a disappointing relationship in which the person they trusted, loved, and cared for broke their trust and hurt them deeply.

you broke my heart silverstein

In fact the guitarist and writer of the song, Josh Farro, said that he wrote the song to express what it is like to put “your faith in someone and they blow it.”

Just talk yourself up and tear yourself down
You’ve hit your one wall, now find a way around
Well, what’s the problem? You got a lot of nerve

So what did you think I would say?
No, you can’t run away, no, you can’t run away
So what did you think I would say?
No, you can’t run away, no, you can’t run away
You wouldn’t

I never wanted to say this
You never wanted to stay
I put my faith in you, so much faith
And then you just threw it away
You threw it away

f_lonelylovParamore

I’m not so naive, my sorry eyes can see
The way you fight shy of almost everything
Well, if you give up, you’ll get what you deserve

So what did you think I would say?
No, you can’t run away, no, you can’t run away
So what did you think I would say?
No, you can’t run away, no, you can’t run away
You wouldn’t

I never wanted to say this
You never wanted to stay
I put my faith in you, so much faith
And then you just threw it away
You threw it away

You were finished long before
We had even seen the start
Why don’t you stand up? Be a man about it
Fight with your bare hands about it now!

You never wanted to stay, well did you?
I put my faith in you, so much faith

And then you just threw it away.

Carry On Wayward Son

carryonmywaywardson

So I absolutely love this song! My father is a huge Kansas fan so it was always played in my home. This is me.

favsong

So enough with Supernatural let’s get back to the song.

Carry On My Wayward Son Kansas

Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas

So this song has been around long before Supernatural although I’m sure that is what most people now associate it with.

So my parents grew up in the ’70s and were big music fans, in fact my mom was a disco queen. Anyway, I got a lot of info on this song from my dad, as since he was around then he knew all the skinny on what was happeming in the music scene.

So when Kerry Livgren was writing Carry On Wayward Son,  not only was he and the group under pressure from the studio but he was struggling with his own spirituality and religion. He felt there had to be something more, but didn’t know what. In 1979, Livgren became interested in The Urantia Book, a series of papers that claim to be a series of revelations written by supernatural beings. He later rejected the teachings, and once again found himself at a loss. Kansas went on tour with another band, Louisiana’s Le Roux, and he and one of the members, Jeff Pollard, would debate over what was the truth. Urantia or the Bible. Livgren ultimately was convinced by Pollard and became a Christian.

Livgreen wrote the piano, guitar, and the amazing lyrics. I just love this song as it just captures so much emotion of hope, despair, confusion, etc.

Now doesn’t that make its connection to Supernatural even better? I mean the whole theme of Supernatural is about these two brothers trying to figure out the what God, angels, demons, etc. all means. Trying to figure out their place in the world.

supernatural impala

They actually weren’t going to use the song as a theme it just sort of happened. And its perfect as Dean and Sam Winchesters are from Kansas.

Don’t you cry no more

Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I’m dreaming,
I can hear them say

Carry on my wayward son,
There’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more

My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man,
Well, it surely means that I don’t know

Don’t you cry no more no!
