I’ve said in a previous post, how I didn’t believe in Santa growing up. My parents felt that lying to me would be bad, and instead told me the story of the “real” Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas. They told us that the Santa people believe in today was more of a feeling, than an actual person.
Even though I wasn’t a believer, I still liked Santa Claus, including the most famous Christmas carol featuring him, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.
This is older than you probably think, having been written in 1934 by John Fredrick Coots and Haven Gillespie. It was originally performed by Harry Reser but since than has been covered numerous times by countless artists.
Of course my all-time favorite version is from the claymation Christmas special, Santa Claus is Coming to Town.
Not only is this special great in how it tries to answer every question kids have ever had about Santa, and does one amazing job, but Fred Astaire and company do a great job of singing the song.
No matter what, when I hear this song I just want to join along!
