22) Here I Go Again by Whitesnake

Now if I had to pick my favorite song, absolutely had to pick one it would be this one. I love this song so, so, so, so, so much.

This is the song that has gotten me through everything. Any horrible events, broken friendships, break ups, moving, and making any drastic changes. It always helps empower me and make me feel like I can get through anything.

The song came out in 1982, but then was re-recorded and released in 1987. The 1987 version is the one I love. It was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 17 on VH1‘s 100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s.

The song was written by  the lead singer, David Coverdale, and former Whitesnake guitarist, Bernie Marsden. 

I just feel that this song is absolutely amazing! I cannot stress that enough. I included it at this point in the breakup list as I feel it goes perfectly after the last song. Here you are going on with your life. Here you go on your own. You are making a vow to not wasting anymore time moping and crying. Here I go again. 🙂

Carry On Wayward Son

So I absolutely love this song! My father is a huge Kansas fan so it was always played in my home. This is me.

So enough with Supernatural let’s get back to the song.

So this song has been around long before Supernatural although I’m sure that is what most people now associate it with.

So my parents grew up in the ’70s and were big music fans, in fact my mom was a disco queen. Anyway, I got a lot of info on this song from my dad, as since he was around then he knew all the skinny on what was happeming in the music scene.

So when Kerry Livgren was writing Carry On Wayward Son,  not only was he and the group under pressure from the studio but he was struggling with his own spirituality and religion. He felt there had to be something more, but didn’t know what. In 1979, Livgren became interested in The Urantia Book, a series of papers that claim to be a series of revelations written by supernatural beings. He later rejected the teachings, and once again found himself at a loss. Kansas went on tour with another band, Louisiana’s Le Roux, and he and one of the members, Jeff Pollard, would debate over what was the truth. Urantia or the Bible. Livgren ultimately was convinced by Pollard and became a Christian.

Livgreen wrote the piano, guitar, and the amazing lyrics. I just love this song as it just captures so much emotion of hope, despair, confusion, etc.

Now doesn’t that make its connection to Supernatural even better? I mean the whole theme of Supernatural is about these two brothers trying to figure out the what God, angels, demons, etc. all means. Trying to figure out their place in the world.

They actually weren’t going to use the song as a theme it just sort of happened. And its perfect as Dean and Sam Winchesters are from Kansas.

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

So I think we all can agree that Eye of the Tiger is one killer song. I absolutely love it and consider it one of Survivor‘s best pieces.

It was written in 1982 for Rocky III. Sylvester Stallone asked for it specifically, because he wanted a song to really capture where Rocky was in the third film. That’s also why they repeat the phrase “eye of the tiger” fifty-majillion times in the movie.

These song is awesome on so many levels. First there is the great introduction; it just really gets you going and into it. Second we have the amazing lyrics! These are just sooo good!

Third, their music video is awesome, I mean watch this thing.

Fourthly, It is great dancing music! I don’t know about you all, but as soon as I hear that song, I start dancing. I don’t really dance so it looks more like a strange movement interpretive thing, but yeah the music moves me.

And I don’t think anyone expresses how one gets into this song better than Jensen Ackles. For those of you who may not know who he is he plays Dean Winchester on Supernatural, and one day he was just goofing around and started dancing to Eye of the Tiger expressing how I truly feel.
