If you’ve read my earlier posts on Avenged Sevenfold, you know that I absolutely love the band. I think the members are absolutely HOT! One of which is M. Shadows. You know how I’m into heavy metal. 🙂
Mac & Cheese yes, while Dungeons and Dragons are a no, (Click here to find out what style you are.)
If you read my earlier post Unbound (The Wild Ride)you’d know that this song was one that I really enjoyed as it not only was a great song, but really helped me get over my breakup with my ex. (Ironic as he was the one who introduced me to this band and lent me the CD)
29) Unbound (The Wild Ride) by Avenged Sevenfold
So yep, this is another post in the “Getting Over a Heartbreak” series. So this song comes off the 2007 album, and it’s a little different from their usual stuff; but just as amazing. It is a little more rock than metal, and even though quite a few people hate it I LOVE it. This is also the last album with the James “The Rev” Sullivan, before he died. 😦
Now I love this as a “Heartbreak” song as it really seems to go through the stages of overcoming the issues of heartbreak. You’re hurt and upset, but eventually you realize that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you will make it through. Nothing is ever going to stop you as you will remain unbound.
Yep:
Somewhere life is good, and things go as they should
it’s hard to find, but that’s alright yeah
Searching for the way, push harder everyday
It’s deep inside, that shining light yeah
But I’m scarred, by barriers placed in my path
I’m scathed
This ride that takes me through life
Leads me into darkness but emerges into light
No one can ever slow me down
I’ll stay unbound
The very Handsome Matthew Shadows! 🙂
Sometimes when we’re young, and always on the run
It gets so dark and I know that place yeah
So don’t be too concerned, you’ve got a lot to learn
Well so do I and we’ve got plenty of time yeah
Don’t fall off the track yet with so many races to go
Hold on
This ride that takes me through life
Leads me into darkness but emerges into light
No one can ever slow me down
I’ll stay unbound
Some live so wrong, with what we do is each his own
But living in fear, endless shame for countless years
I never lived in fear I knew I’d die another day
I never viewed my life as something… slipping away
Some live so wrong, with what we do is each his own
But living in fear, endless shame for countless years
I never lived in fear I knew I’d die another day
I never viewed my life as something… slipping away
There’s nothing here to take for granted
with each breath that we take
the hands of time strip youth from our bodies
And we fade
memories remain
as time goes on
There’s nothing here to take for granted
with each breath that we take
the hands of time strip youth from our bodies
And we fade
memories remain
as time goes on
After all:

So guys, here we are another post on the “Getting Over a Heartbreak” series:
28) Any Way You Want It by Journey
Another Journey song, I know but I can’t help it I love them. They capture emotions so well and can really get their message across.
So this song was released in the ’80s. It was written by lead singer Steve Perry and guitarist Neal Schon. In 1979, Journey was touring with Thin Lizzy and were greatly influenced by them.
The reason I put this on the list was because after a breakup you need to focus on yourself and what you want. And as you are single you should not only can do what you want but you should do whatever you want.
Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it
She loves to laugh
She loves to sing
She does everything
She loves to move
She loves to grove
She loves the lovin’ things
Ooh, all night, all night
Oh, every night
So hold tight, hold tight
Ooh, baby, hold tight
Oh, she said,
Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it
She said, Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it
I was alone
I never knew
What good love could do
Ooh, then we touched
Then we sang
About the lovin’ things
Ooh, all night, all night
Oh, every night
So hold tight, hold tight
Ooh baby, hold tight
Oh, she said,
Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it
She said, Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it
There is also the awesome Rock of Ages version:
After all, once you know what you want go after it:
And never settle for anything else:
You may be:
But the right guy will come around and love you no matter what:
Here we are, another song on the “Getting Over a Heartbreak” series:
27) Be Good to Yourself by Journey
This song came out in 1986, and quickly climbed the charts as number 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Be Good to Yourself was a mantra that lead singer Steve Perry would say over and over. Jonathan Cain, the keyboardist, wrote it down and it later was turned into a song. At the time period, Perry was dealing with home issues and a dying mother. It took them five months to write the complete thing.
The song was written by Perry, Cain, and Neal Schon. This actually saw the leaving of bassiest, Ross Valory and drummer, Steve Smith; replaced by Larrie Londin and Randy Jackson.
I included it in this songlist, as after a breakup, it is always important to remember to be good to yourself. Not only as in taking care of yourself as in making sure that you don’t go off the deep end in letting yourself go. You should also make sure that you are going out, living your life, etc.
Runnin’ out of self-control
Gettin’ close to an overload
Up against a no win situation
Shoulder to shoulder, push and shove
I’m hangin’ up my boxin’ gloves
I’m ready for a long vacation
Be good to yourself when, nobody else will
Oh be good to yourself
You’re walkin’ a high wire, caught in a cross fire
Oh be good to yourself
When you can’t give no more
They want it all but you gotta say no
I’m turnin’ off the noise that makes me crazy
Lookin’ back with no regrets
To forgive is to forget
I want a little piece of mind to turn to
Music is awesome and helps you overpower anything. One such song being:
26) Whip It by Devo
Whip It was created by Devo in the ’80s. The lyrics were inspired by the book Gravity’s Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. The whole purpose of the song was to overcome adversity by “whipping” or defeating any problem you may face. Devo wears their trademark black, sleeveless turtlenecks, and their red Energy Dome headgear.
This song has been covered by tons of people; everyone from Alvin and the Chipmunks, to Moby, to Korn.
Crack that whip
Give the past a slip
Step on a crack
Break your momma’s back
When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sets out too long
You must whip it
When something’s goin’ wrong
You must whip it
Now whip it
Into shape
Shape it up
Get straight
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It’s not too late
To whip it
Whip it good
When a good time turns around
You must whip it
You will never live it down
Unless you whip it
No one gets away
Until they whip it
I say whip it
Whip it good
I say whip it
Whip it good
Crack that whip
Give the past a slip
Step on a crack
Break your momma’s back
When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sets out too long
You must whip it
When something’s goin’ wrong
You must whip it
Now whip it
Into shape
Shape it up
Get straight
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It’s not too late
To whip it
Into shape
Shape it up
Get straight
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It’s not too late
To whip it
Well, whip it good
Of course one of my favorite depictions comes from Raising Helen.
Remember:

So here we are another step in the “Getting Over a Heartbreak” series:
24) Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey
So this is one of the best and most famous Journey songs. Everyone loves this song, and if they don’t they are stupid and crazy! When this songs plays, its practically impossible not to sing along.
It was released in 1981 and immediately took root on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the top-selling rock song in digital history until it was overtaken by Imagine Dragons‘ “Radioactive” in January 2014. It’s been in countless films and TV shows and covered by millions. My favorite cover has to be from Rock of Ages. Otherwise I’m all about the original.
So the reason I included the song on this list is that this is a song that works well anytime you are feeling down. All you have to do is sing those verses and it instantly makes you feel better. Don’t stop believin’ you’ll make it through. Don’t stop believin’ you’ll get over that person. Don’t stop believin’ you’ll find someone better.
Just a small town girl
Livin’ in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin’ anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin’ anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlight people
Livin’ just to find emotion
Hidin’ somewhere in the night
Workin’ hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin’ anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win
Some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlight people
Livin’ just to find emotion
Hidin’ somewhere in the night
[Instrumental interlude]
Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlight people
Don’t stop believin’
Hold on
Streetlight people
Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlight people
And there is the amazing Rock of Ages version.
Remember: Don’t stop believin’ in yourself
After all:
To start the “Getting Over a Heartbreak” series from the beginning, go to If It Means A Lot to You
So those of you who don’t know, those are lyrics from the song.
So here we go again, another post on our “Getting Over a Heartbreak Series”.
22) Here I Go Again by Whitesnake
Now if I had to pick my favorite song, absolutely had to pick one it would be this one. I love this song so, so, so, so, so much.
This is the song that has gotten me through everything. Any horrible events, broken friendships, break ups, moving, and making any drastic changes. It always helps empower me and make me feel like I can get through anything.
The song came out in 1982, but then was re-recorded and released in 1987. The 1987 version is the one I love. It was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 17 on VH1‘s 100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s.
I just feel that this song is absolutely amazing! I cannot stress that enough. I included it at this point in the breakup list as I feel it goes perfectly after the last song. Here you are going on with your life. Here you go on your own. You are making a vow to not wasting anymore time moping and crying. Here I go again. 🙂
I don’t know where I’m going
But, I sure know where I’ve been
Hanging on the promises
In songs of yesterday
An’ I’ve made up my mind,
I ain’t wasting no more time
But, here I go again
Here I go again
Tho’ I keep searching for an answer,
I never seem to find what I’m looking for
Oh Lord, I pray
You give me strength to carry on,
‘Cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams
An’ here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An’ I’ve made up my mind
I ain’t wasting no more time
I’m just another heart in need of rescue,
Waiting on love’s sweet charity
An’ I’m gonna hold on
For the rest of my days,
‘Cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams
An’ here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An’ I’ve made up my mind
I ain’t wasting no more time
But, here I go again,
Here I go again,
Here I go again,
Here I go…
An’ I’ve made up my mind,
I ain’t wasting no more time
An’ here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
‘Cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams
An’ here I go again on my own
Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An’ I’ve made up my mind
I ain’t wasting no more time…
But, here I go again,
Here I go again,
Here I go again,
Here I go,
Here I go again…
And I have to say that I also absolutely love the version by Rock of Ages.
Remember:
Because:
Go on along the road:
And above all remember:
To start the “Getting Over a Heartbreak” series from the beginning, go to If It Means A Lot to You
Yep, you probably recognize this and know that we are on the next step in our “Getting Over Heartbreak Series”. So here we go with:
18) Up and Up (Acoustic) by Reliant K
So I love this song coming next as I feel it really expresses the transition from deciding to move on and ignore the past to completely moving forward.
After all realizing the past is in the past and that you have to leave it their instead of having it control your future is one of the most difficult things to do.
Yesterday was not quite what it could’ve been
As were most of all the days before
But I swear today, with every breath I’m breathing in
I’ll be trying to make it so much more
‘Cause it seems I get so hung up on the history of what’s gone wrong
And the hope of a new day is sometimes hard to see
But I’m finally catching on to it, yeah, the past is just a conduit
And the light, there at the end is where I’ll be
‘Cause I’m on the up and up, I’m on the up and up
And I haven’t given up, given up on what I know I’m capable of
Yeah, I’m on the up and up and yeah, there’s nothing left to prove
‘Cause I’m just trying to be a better version of me for you
A better version of me for you
To be prosperous would not require much of me
You see, contentment is the one thing it entails
To be content with where I am and getting where I need to be
And moving past the past where I have failed
But I’m finally catching on to it and yeah, the past is just a conduit
Remember:
And:
To start the “Getting Over a Heartbreak Series” from the beginning, go to If It Means A Lot to You
So if you remember from my earlier post, Sadness Is…, I love Avenged Sevenfold aka A7x. It all started with my Ex as he was obssessed with this band and would play it all the time trying to get me into it as well. I grew to love the band and if you read my earlier post you can read all about how obsessed I become over their music, and how I still am now.
So, the first CD that Michael gave me was their Avenged Sevenfold album, aka “the White Album” as Michael would call it. It was an experimental album and I just adored it. I loved the singing, lyrics, the music, music videos, etc. In fact the first song I heard (and what started my love) was A Little Piece of Heaven and I don’t know if that means I’m crazy or just a great appreciator of music. Probably both. 😉 So for the first song I’m going to write on, as there will be many, many, many, many more to follow is:
Unbound (The Wild Ride)
So this song comes off the 2007 album, and as I have said before is a little different from their usual stuff; but just as amazing. It is a little more rock than metal, and even though quite a few people hate it I LOVE it. This is also the last album with the James “The Rev” Sullivan, before he died. 😦
So I couldn’t find too much info on the background of this song’s creation sadly, and unfortunately the only one I know who would have a plethora of knowledge is no longer in my life so I’m just going to do an analysis on my own.
So I think this is a song everyone can connect to. Here are the lyrics for all of you who haven’t had a chance to realize the addictiveness and necessity of A7x in your life.
Somewhere life is good and things go as they should It’s hard to find but thats alright Searching for the way, push harder everyday It’s deep inside that shining light But I’m scarred by barriers placed in my path, I’m scathed
This ride that takes me through life Leads me into darkness but emerges into light No one can ever slow me down, I’ll stay unbound
Sometimes when we’re young and always on the run It gets so dark and I know that place So don’t be too concerned, you’ve got a lot to learn Well, so do I and we’ve got plenty of time Don’t fall off the track yet with so many races to go, hold on
This ride that takes me through life Leads me into darkness but emerges into light No one can ever slow me down, I’ll stay unbound
Some live so wrong, with what we do is each his own Living in fear, endless shame for countless years I never lived in fear, I knew I’d die another day I never viewed my life as something slipping away
Some live so wrong, with what we do is each his own But living in fear, endless shame for countless years I never lived in fear, I knew I’d die another day I never viewed my life as something slipping away
There’s nothing here to take for granted With each breath that we take The hands of time strip youth from our bodies And we fade, memories remain as time goes on
There’s nothing here to take for granted With each breath that we take The hands of time strip youth from our bodies And we fade, memories remain as time goes on
So as we see in the beginning we see that main person is trying to live their life but crap just keeps piling on, they are trying to push through to the light, but every time it seems that more and more things are in their way. I think that is something we all can relate to as bad things never come in singles. This song actually helped me through my breakup. (Ironic huh. The song my ex gave helped me get past the pain)
But I love how even though this wild ride that takes you through pain and problems, will never defeat you. You’ll never be slowed down but stay Unbound.
The very Handsome Matthew Shadows! 🙂
Isn’t that awesome! It’s like even though everything is dark and painful, just keep going because you will emerge from it, nothing can hold you back. You will achieve you dreams, get over your pain and heartache, take on anything.
Then it goes on as the viewer takes on an older note telling someone younger the need to hold on. When things are happening everything is harder, more painful, and horrible; but it will get better in time. Hold on, there is plenty of time for you to overcome it, you have so much left to live for in your life. Don’t give up!
