I Don’t Wanna Be in Love (Dance Floor Anthem)

feelings

I’m sure you all are very aware of what this post is about. Yep, another post in the “Getting Over Heartbreak Series”.

21) I Don’t Wanna Be in Love (Dance Floor Anthem)

So I’ve been a huge fan of Good Charlotte forever. They were really big when I was a preteen-teen. You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing their music play. My favorite (although I don’t agree with everything in it), is Girls & Boys.

Anyways, so this is a great song. It is about how after you are through with a breakup and fully over the other person, you have to work on yourself and put yourself out there again. It really details the emotions you feel and how you don’t want to be in love.

This is the third anthem in their musical career. The song was written by Joel Madden, the lead vocalist, about a previous relationship. There are two sets of people in this song. One is a couple where the girl had been trying so hard and the guy treated her wrongly. The second couple, the girl is the horrible one and the guy is the one that had been trying.

She’s going out to forget they were together
All that time he was taking her for granted
She wants to see, if there’s more
Than he gave
She’s looking for

He calls her up; he’s trippin’ on the phone now
He doesn’t want her out there and alone now
He knows she’s movin’ it
Knows she’s using it
Now he’s losing it
She don’t care

Everybody, put up your hands
Say: “I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love”
Feel the beat now, if you’ve got nothing left
Say: “I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love”
Back it up now, you’ve got a reason to live
Say: “I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love”
Feelin’ good now, don’t be afraid to get down
Say: “I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love”

He was always givin’ her attention
Working hard to find the things she mentioned
He was dedicated, by most suckers hated
That girl was fine, but she didn’t appreciate him

She calls him up; she’s trippin’ on the phone now
He had to get out and he ain’t coming home now
He’s tryin’ to forget her; that’s how he got with her
When he first met her, when they first got together

So here we are in another post on the series of “Songs to Help You Get Over a Heartbreak” or the Heartbreak series. At this point we have gone past sadness, regret, love stinks, to being furious at the person who dumped you. This brings us to:

14) Put Me Out by The Used

Now I’ve always been a fan of The Used, but I got this song off the Vans Warped Tour 2013 Compilation album as well. If I haven’t convinced you already, you really need to check this CD out. It’s fantastic.

So the album that it is originally from  is about vulnerability and renewal. Lead singer, Bert McCracken, said:

“This record’s really about becoming more than just who you are, and allowing yourself that vulnerability to be a more powerful person. It’s a lot more positive than a lot of records we’ve written in the past. I think everyone could use some positivity nowadays.”

I like how the expression in the song is anger on how the person just threw them away after everything they did, like Paramore’s For a Pessimist, I’m Pretty Optimistic; but at the same time it is about moving on and being okay. Plus my ex was a smoker so that made an even stronger connection to the song.

You bought your smile in a corner
You paid a pretty little penny, you did.
You paint yourself in a picture
As you deny the kind of person you’ve been
You get what you feel, what you wish to be
You can’t live sarcastic sincerity
You sharpen your guilt like a guillotine
You get what you feel, you get what you feel
I gave you everything, you threw it away.
Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette.
Love like a cancer, still you beg me to stay
Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette.
f_lonelylovParamore

Come on!

You pop right in to the moment,
You paid a pretty little penny, you did.
You never noticed how broken
As you deny the kind of person you’ve been

You get what you feel, what you wish to be
You can’t live sarcastic sincerity
You sharpen your guilt like a guillotine
You get what you feel, you get what you feel

I gave you everything, you threw it away.
Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette.
Love like a cancer, still you beg me to stay
Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette.

UsedYou kneel to pray,
Live life on your knees embrace the disease.
Stop to breathe in as you start to choke, your life begins.
YOU PUT ME OUT! LIKE A CIGARETTE!I gave you everything, you threw it away.
Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette.
Love like a cancer, still you beg me to stay
Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette. But you know what I’m just fine, and so you will be too:

I’ll Be Alright Without You by Journey

You probably know where this post is headed. Yep, its the next step in the Heartbreak playlist. We are now on:

Journey

10) I’ll Be Alright Without You by Journey

So back in December I did a post I’ll Be Alright Without You, of which I talked a lot about how this song really expressed my feelings. I only added it in this line up because it went well in the playlist.

Music

So like I said before the lyrics are really beautiful and truly express trying to get over someone.

I’ve been thinking ’bout the times You walked out on me There were moments I’d believe, you were there Do I miss you, or am I lying to my self again

journey

I do these things… (It’s all because of you) I keep holding on, but I’ll try (try not to think of you) Love don’t leave me lonely I’ll be alright without you

There’ll be someone else…I keep tellin’ myself I’ll be alright without you Oh…love’s an empty face, I can’t replace (you don’t need it)

journey I'll be alright wout you

People wonderin’ why we broke apart The great pretender here I go again These things I do (It’s all because of you)

I’ll keep holdin’ but I’ll try (try not to think of you) All I wanted was to hold you I’ll be alright without you There’ll be someone else, I keep tellin’ myself

I’ll be alright without you Love’s an empty face…Oh I’ve got to replace I’ll be alright without you There’ll be someone else, I keep tellin’ myself

I’ll be alright without you Oh…love’s an empty place, I can still see your face I’ll be alright

Breaking up is just hard to do (if it wasn’t there wouldn’t be a song titled that), and this just expresses exactly what one goes through. Remember you were fine before that person came into your life and you’ll be fine after.

Life Goes On

So here is another installment in the series of “Songs to Help You Get Over Heartbreak”. So we have moved past the crying and weeping, past regretfulness and love stinks, and now are at realization that it is a part of life. It happened once, and will again.

fuirsttime

With this realization, it doesn’t always mean that you are over it (everyone moves on at their own speed) but that you are closer to being completely over it. This next song is:

chin up kid forever the sickest kids you know9) Chin Up Kid by Forever the Sickest Kids

So this is another band I got into after listening to the Vans Warped Tour 2013 CD. Now I listened to this song over and over and over and over and over again, when I was dealing with my breakup. I really like it because of the lyrics, how true they are; along with having being a really upbeat song that makes you feel good. Plus their music video is amazing!!! You are going to love it!!!

The band wrote the song for those specific reasons.

“It’s a feeling that anyone who’s been through heartbreak will recognize. ‘Chin Up Kid’ can be a very relatable song to most. We wrote this song about keeping your head up through heartbreak and trying times. Young love can come and go before you realize you even had it. We hope this song motivates the listener to find inner strength to keep moving on and pressing forward.”

So here are the amazing lyrics.

Everybody hurts every once in a while
And everybody loses sleep with a broken heart
Good things come and go but kid you’ll learn how to cope
When something feels right, be ready to let it go

let-it-goForever the sickest kids

I remember hurting her and her hurting me
I remember losing sleep, she was haunting my dreams
It’s alright, chin up kid, it’ll all be fine
There’s not a wound in this world that won’t heal with time

healwtime forever the sickest kids

You’re just a boy
She’s just a girl
You’ll break her heart
She’ll wreck your world
But life goes on, the ending’s the starting line
Chin up, press on, you will survive
Young love that lasts is hard to find
So chin up, press on, you will survive

foreverthesickestkidslifegoeson
Gotta learn to be OK with being alone
You gotta learn to love yourself before you love someone else
It’s hard to be patient
W
hile she’s keeping you waiting

I remember loving her, her not loving me
And I remember losing sleep, she was haunting my dreams
And it’s alright, chin up kid, it’ll all be fine
There’s not a wound in this world that won’t heal with time

You’re just a boy
She’s just a girl
You’ll break her heart
She’ll wreck your world
But life goes on, the ending’s the starting line
Chin up, press on, you will survive
Young love that lasts is hard to find
So chin up, press on, you will survive

Woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah
(Woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah)
Woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah
(Woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah…)

And everything will be alright
And everything will be just fine
And everything will be alright
Yeah!

You’re just a boy
She’s just a girl
You’ll break her heart
She’ll wreck your world
But life goes on, the ending’s the starting line
Chin up, press on, you will survive
Young love that lasts is hard to find
So chin up, press on, you will survive

Life goes on, the ending’s the starting line
Chin up, press on, you will survive
Young love that lasts is hard to find
So chin up, press on, you will survive

You will survive!

No matter how painful something is you will survive and get over it. It just takes time.

7) Love Stinks by the J. Geils Band

Now this has always been one of my favorite songs, even before my break up. I think this is just a fantastic song as everyone can connect to it; no matter what age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, or musical preference. Yep, this song crosses every boundary as all have been hurt by love.

music

It is one of the most famous songs by  The J. Geils Band and was released in 1980. It has been covered numerous times, the most known and famous being Joan Jett, and Adam Sandler in the movie The Wedding Singer. The song was also featured in the films  Love Stinks and  Mr. Wrong

There is no real analyzation needed as the lyrics are just a rant against love. The lyrics were inspired by J. Geils Band lead singer Peter Wolf’s marriage to actress Faye Dunaway.

You love her
But she loves him
And he loves somebody else
You just can’t win

Love triangle Boy Meets World
And so it goes
Till the day you die
This thing they call love
It’s gonna make you cry
