28) Any Way You Want It by Journey

Another Journey song, I know but I can’t help it I love them. They capture emotions so well and can really get their message across.

Journey

So this song was released in the ’80s. It was written by lead singer Steve Perry and guitarist Neal Schon. In 1979, Journey was touring with Thin Lizzy and were greatly influenced by them.

The reason I put this on the list was because after a breakup you need to focus on yourself and what you want. And as you are single you should not only can do what you want but you should do whatever you want.

Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it
She loves to laugh
She loves to sing
She does everything
She loves to move
She loves to grove
She loves the lovin’ things
Ooh, all night, all night
Oh, every night
So hold tight, hold tight
Ooh, baby, hold tight
Oh, she said,

Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it
She said, Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it

AnyWayYOuWantItJourney

I was alone
I never knew
What good love could do
Ooh, then we touched
Then we sang
About the lovin’ things

Ooh, all night, all night
Oh, every night
So hold tight, hold tight
Ooh baby, hold tight
Oh, she said,

Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it
She said, Any way you want it
That’s the way you need it
Any way you want it

There is also the awesome Rock of Ages version:

25) The Lining is Silver by Relient K

This song comes off the album The Bird and the Bee Sides, the same CD that Up and Up came from. The title of the song comes from the idiom “that every cloud has a silver lining”. Which means that you can always find good in bad.

Now the song takes it in a new direction. It does cover that in bad you can find good, but also that the silver lining is in you. You are the good in the bad situation, it resides in who you are. You are golden, you are awesome.

Awesome

Don’t Stop Believin’

Don'tStopBelieving

So here we are another step in the “Getting Over a Heartbreak” series:

journey-dsb-re

24) Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey

So this is one of the best and most famous Journey songs. Everyone loves this song, and if they don’t they are stupid and crazy! When this songs plays, its practically impossible not to sing along.

Don'tStopBelievin

It was released in 1981 and immediately took root on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the top-selling rock song in digital history until it was overtaken by Imagine Dragons‘ “Radioactive” in January 2014. It’s been in countless films and TV shows and covered by millions. My favorite cover has to be from Rock of Ages. Otherwise I’m all about the original.

So the reason I included the song on this list is that this is a song that works well anytime you are feeling down. All you have to do is sing those verses and it instantly makes you feel better. Don’t stop believin’ you’ll make it through. Don’t stop believin’ you’ll get over that person. Don’t stop believin’ you’ll find someone better.

Just a small town girl
Livin’ in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin’ anywhere

adventures
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin’ anywhere

IDKbutIWanttoGo

A singer in a smokey room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

JourneyDSB

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlight people
Livin’ just to find emotion
Hidin’ somewhere in the night

journeyDSB2

Workin’ hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin’ anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win
Some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

JDSB2

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlight people
Livin’ just to find emotion
Hidin’ somewhere in the night

[Instrumental interlude]

Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlight people
Don’t stop believin’
Hold on
Streetlight people
Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlight people

And there is the amazing Rock of Ages version.

Remember: Don’t stop believin’ in yourself

Na-Na-Na- My Chemical Romance

Yep, another My Chemical Romance post!

gerardWay

So this song is off their album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, and like all MCR albums, follows a story rather than just being individual songs. It took over a year to create the album, and the band wrote over 36 songs, not of all they kept. This story is set in the year 2019, a post-apocalyptic California.  There are a few willing to stand up to the tyrants, these rebel forces called Killjoys, of which MCR is a part of. The music videos and songs reference a lot of films, such as Blade Runner, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Mad Max, The Karate Kid, Dredd/Judge Dredd etc.

Each band member has an alter-ego Gerard Way being Party Poison”, Ray Toro is Jet Star, Frank Iero is Fun Ghoul, and Mikey Way is Kobra Kid. All of which look really hot in their rebel wear/masks. There is just something to be said for vigilantes who wear masks. 🙂

mCR

The guide for the Killjoys is a pirate radio DJ named Dr. Death Defying who is voiced by Steve Montano.  The music video of ‘”Na Na Na” shows the Killjoys’ daily lives until Korse (the evil corporation) defeats them and captures The Girl, in which a later song they have to go rescue her back.

Now the lyrics and video are just AMAZING! The music just gets you pumped!

I think it is one of their best works yet.

The future is bulletproof
The aftermath is secondary
It’s time to do it now and do it loud
Killjoys, make some noise

Drugs, gimme drugs, gimme drugs
I don’t need it but I’ll sell what you got
Take the cash and I’ll keep it
Eight legs to the wall, hit the gas, kill ’em all
And we crawl, and we crawl, and we crawl
You be my detonator

Love, gimme love, gimme love
I don’t need it but I’ll take what I want from your heart
And I’ll keep it in a bag, in a box
Put an X on the floor
Gimme more, gimme more, gimme more
Shut up and sing it with me

From mall security
To every enemy
We’re on your property
Standing in V-formation
Let’s blow an artery
Eat plastic surgery
Keep your apology
Give us more detonation

(More, gimme more, gimme more)
Oh, let me tell you ’bout the sad man
Shut up and let me see your jazz hands
Remember when you were a madman
Thought you was Batman

Dean Winchester Batman

And hit the party with a gas can
Kiss me you animal

You run the company
F*** like a Kennedy
I think we’d rather be
Burning your information
Let’s blow an artery
Eat plastic surgery
Keep your apology
Give us more detonation

And right here, right now
All the way in Battery City
The little children raised their open filthy palms
Like tiny daggers up to heaven
And all the juvie halls
And the Ritalin rats ask angels
Made from neon and fucking garbage
Scream out “What will save us?”
And the sky opened up

Everybody wants to change the world
Everybody wants to change the world
But no one, no one wants to die
Wanna try, wanna try, wanna try, wanna try, wanna try now
I’ll be your detonator

Make no apology
It’s death or victory
On my authority
Crash and burn
Young and loaded
Drop like a bulletshell
Dress like a sleeper cell
I’d rather go to hell
Than be in purgatory
Cut my hair
Gag and bore me
Pull this pin
Let this world explode

I’ll Be Alright Without You by Journey

You probably know where this post is headed. Yep, its the next step in the Heartbreak playlist. We are now on:

Journey

10) I’ll Be Alright Without You by Journey

So back in December I did a post I’ll Be Alright Without You, of which I talked a lot about how this song really expressed my feelings. I only added it in this line up because it went well in the playlist.

Music

So like I said before the lyrics are really beautiful and truly express trying to get over someone.

I’ve been thinking ’bout the times You walked out on me There were moments I’d believe, you were there Do I miss you, or am I lying to my self again

journey

I do these things… (It’s all because of you) I keep holding on, but I’ll try (try not to think of you) Love don’t leave me lonely I’ll be alright without you

There’ll be someone else…I keep tellin’ myself I’ll be alright without you Oh…love’s an empty face, I can’t replace (you don’t need it)

journey I'll be alright wout you

People wonderin’ why we broke apart The great pretender here I go again These things I do (It’s all because of you)

I’ll keep holdin’ but I’ll try (try not to think of you) All I wanted was to hold you I’ll be alright without you There’ll be someone else, I keep tellin’ myself

I’ll be alright without you Love’s an empty face…Oh I’ve got to replace I’ll be alright without you There’ll be someone else, I keep tellin’ myself

I’ll be alright without you Oh…love’s an empty place, I can still see your face I’ll be alright

Breaking up is just hard to do (if it wasn’t there wouldn’t be a song titled that), and this just expresses exactly what one goes through. Remember you were fine before that person came into your life and you’ll be fine after.
