Darcy’s ’80’s Power Song

So yesterday I was driving my car and listening to the ’80s station on Amazon Prime Music. As I was listening to them, I was thinking how everyone has at least one ’80s power song they listen to-when they are sad, angry, hurt, happy. We all have at least one we love to crank out.

I mean we all have at least one, I have a gazillion.

So as I was listening, Every Rose Has It’s Thorn by Poison came on and it made me think of Mr. Darcy. If Mr. Darcy lived today, I believe that’s the song he would be playing.

Huh?

Well let me elaborate…

So imagine that Darcy has just told Elizabeth that he wants to marry her.

And she has said no.

Darcy is feeling pretty dumb.

And I’m sure that in today’s time he would have immediately texted Bingley and been told how very dumb he was.

So when Darcy got home and needed to crank out a song to feel better, Every Rose Has Its Thorn is the One to Play.

We both lie silent, still
In the dead of the night
Although we both lie close together
We feel miles apart inside
Was it something I said or something I did
Did my words not come out right
Though I tried
But I guess that’s why they say
Every rose has it’s thorn
Just like every night has it’s dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has it’s thorn
Yeah it does
I listen to our favorite song
Playing on the radio
Hear the DJ say loves a game of easy come and easy go
But I wonder does he know
Has he ever felt like this
And I know that you’d be here right now
If I could let you know somehow
I can just see Mr. Darcy thinking of Pemberley and seeing how empty it will be without Elizabeth, the woman he wanted as his wife.
Every rose has it’s thorn
Just like every night has it’s dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has it’s thorn
Yeah it does
Though it’s been a while now
I can still feel so much pain
Like a knife that cuts you, the wound heals
But the scar, that scar will remain
Every rose, every rose
Every rose, has its thorn
I know I could saved a love that night
If I’d known what to say
Instead of makin’ love
We both made our separate ways

And now I’ve ruined my only chance with her!

nd now I hear you found somebody new
And that I never meant that much to you
And to hear that tears me up inside
And to see you cuts me like a knife
And to think she’s with his hated enemy, Mr. Wickham!

Poor guy.

Don’t worry Darcy, it will get better.

Nothing But A Good Time

So I’ve been trying to pick a song that describes me and my life. As this is not an easy quest, the song changes depending on my mood and what’s been going on in my life. At this current moment I decided that the song that almost perfectly describes my state of mind is Nothing But a Good Time by Poison.

The song was released in 1988 and reached #6 on Billboard Top 100. It later was used in the musical Rock of Ages, along with the movie. In both of these it is a combo song, in the musical it is a combination of “Just Like Paradise/Nothing But a Good Time” sung by Lonny & co. In the film it is a combo of “Sister Christian/Just Like Paradise/Nothing But a Good Time“, sung by Sherri (Julianne Hough), Drew (Diego Boneta) <3, Lonny (Russell Brand), Dennis (Alec Baldwin), & co.

So here’s how it relates.

I go to college, work two jobs, T.A., and volunteer once a week. I’m always working and saving money, but always feel so packed as I try to do everything. Sometimes I wish I could just go off and “look for a good time”.

How it doesn’t realate is that I’m not into girls so I don’t have one to hang out with Saturday night and I don’t spend my money on women and wine. I’m straight and a straight-edge. And I always know what bed I wake up in, because its my own, alone. The only time I don’t wake up in my bed, is when I’ve been pulling an all-nighter.

Now Listen
Not a dime, I can’t pay my rent
I can barely make it through the week
Saturday night I’d like to make my girl
But right now I can’t make ends meet

I’m always workin’ slavin’ every day
Gotta get away from that same old same old
I need a chance just to get away
If you could hear me think this is what I’d say

Chorus:
Don’t need nothin’ but a good time
How can I resist
Ain’t lookin’ for nothin’ but a good time
And it don’t get better than this

They say I spend my money on women and wine
But I couldn’t tell you where I spent last night
I’m really sorry about the shape I’m in
I just like my fun every now and then

I’m always workin’ slavin’ every day
Gotta get away from that same old same old
I need a chance just to get away
If you could hear me think this is what I’d say

Chorus:
Don’t need nothin’ but a good time
How can I resist
Ain’t lookin’ for nothin’ but a good time
And it don’t get better than this

You see I raise a toast to all of us
Who are breakin’ our backs every day
If wantin’ the good life is such a crime
Lord, then put me away
Here’s to ya

Guitar Solo

Chorus:
Don’t need nothin’ but a good time
How can I resist
Ain’t lookin’ for nothin’ but a good time
And it don’t get better than this

Here’s the link to the complete music video. This was so me today, I had to complete a herculean task, that is wash a gazillion dishes.

This one isn’t complete, but if you don’t mind that I hope you enjoy.
