Highway Star

favsong

This is how I feel about Highway Star by Deep Purple.

Highway Star

My love for this song came around when Rock Band came out and it was all my friends were playing. When I saw Highway Star that was it, that was the only song I wanted to play/sing.

Highway Star

I just love this song for three main reasons:

  1. The Lyrics are super easy to remember
  2. You don’t have to sing it well, in fact it sounds better when sung badly
  3. It has amazing guitar! This song is just so awesome, words cannot describe how I feel about the guitar solo.

epic solo

Not to mention the epic organ!

Just make sure your musical genius doesn't lead you to becoming a stalker or murderer Your story isn't as romantic as the POG's. Mary can't pull that off.

Just make sure your musical genius doesn’t lead you to becoming a stalker or murderer

I mean to be honest this is me throughout the whole song.

Lyrics2ndvoice&Guitar

This is my cruisin’ song. When I was practicing for my driver’s test (which I passed) I would sing this all the time.

The song was actually created on accident during a tour in 1971. A reporter interviewing the group asked how they wrote songs and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore grabbed his guitar and began playing a “G” riff over and over, while the vocalist Ian Gillan just made things up. The song was later retooled and performed that night. Deep Purple is so awesome.

So here are the lyrics, make sure when you listen you crank it up ands let it rip!

Nobody gonna take my car
I’m gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car
It’s gonna break the speed of sound
Oooh it’s a killing machine
It’s got everything
Like a driving power big fat tires
and everything

I love it and I need it
I bleed it yeah it’s a wild hurricane
Alright hold tight
I’m a highway star

highwaystarDeeppurple

Nobody gonna take my girl
I’m gonna keep her to the end
Nobody gonna have my girl
She stays close on every bend
Oooh she’s a killing machine
She’s got everything
Like a moving mouth body control
and everything

I seed her
Yeah She turns me on
Alright hold on tight
I’m a highway star

Nobody gonna take my head
I got speed inside my brain
Nobody gonna steal my head
Now that I’m on the road again
Oooh I’m in heaven again I’ve got everything
Like a moving ground an open road
and everything

highwaystar

I love it and I need it
I seed it
Eight cylinders all mine
Alright hold on tight
I’m a highway star

Supernatural impala

Nobody gonna take my car

I really wish they would put this song in Supernatural. I mean can’t you just see Dean singing it as he is in total love with his car? Right? Wouldn’t that be just perfect?

So this song is off their album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, and like all MCR albums, follows a story rather than just being individual songs. It took over a year to create the album, and the band wrote over 36 songs, not of all they kept. This story is set in the year 2019, a post-apocalyptic California.  There are a few willing to stand up to the tyrants, these rebel forces called Killjoys, of which MCR is a part of. The music videos and songs reference a lot of films, such as Blade Runner, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Mad Max, The Karate Kid, Dredd/Judge Dredd etc.

Each band member has an alter-ego Gerard Way being Party Poison”, Ray Toro is Jet Star, Frank Iero is Fun Ghoul, and Mikey Way is Kobra Kid. All of which look really hot in their rebel wear/masks. There is just something to be said for vigilantes who wear masks. 🙂

The guide for the Killjoys is a pirate radio DJ named Dr. Death Defying who is voiced by Steve Montano.  The music video of ‘”Na Na Na” shows the Killjoys’ daily lives until Korse (the evil corporation) defeats them and captures The Girl, in which a later song they have to go rescue her back.

Now the lyrics and video are just AMAZING! The music just gets you pumped!

revolution Dancing V for vendetta

I think it is one of their best works yet.

The future is bulletproof
The aftermath is secondary
It’s time to do it now and do it loud
Killjoys, make some noise

Drugs, gimme drugs, gimme drugs
I don’t need it but I’ll sell what you got
Take the cash and I’ll keep it
Eight legs to the wall, hit the gas, kill ’em all
And we crawl, and we crawl, and we crawl
You be my detonator

Love, gimme love, gimme love
I don’t need it but I’ll take what I want from your heart
And I’ll keep it in a bag, in a box
Put an X on the floor
Gimme more, gimme more, gimme more
Shut up and sing it with me

From mall security
To every enemy
We’re on your property
Standing in V-formation
Let’s blow an artery
Eat plastic surgery
Keep your apology
Give us more detonation

(More, gimme more, gimme more)
Oh, let me tell you ’bout the sad man
Shut up and let me see your jazz hands
Remember when you were a madman
Thought you was Batman

Dean Winchester Batman

And hit the party with a gas can
Kiss me you animal

You run the company
F*** like a Kennedy
I think we’d rather be
Burning your information
Let’s blow an artery
Eat plastic surgery
Keep your apology
Give us more detonation

And right here, right now
All the way in Battery City
The little children raised their open filthy palms
Like tiny daggers up to heaven
And all the juvie halls
And the Ritalin rats ask angels
Made from neon and fucking garbage
Scream out “What will save us?”
And the sky opened up

Everybody wants to change the world
Everybody wants to change the world
But no one, no one wants to die
Wanna try, wanna try, wanna try, wanna try, wanna try now
I’ll be your detonator

Make no apology
It’s death or victory
On my authority
Crash and burn
Young and loaded
Drop like a bulletshell
Dress like a sleeper cell
I’d rather go to hell
Than be in purgatory
Cut my hair
Gag and bore me
Pull this pin
Let this world explode

lickourselves

Yep:

Move On

Here we are, another post in the getting over a Heartache series.

all-american-rejects

17) Move Along by All-American Rejects

Do you remember back in the day when they used to play AAR ALL the time. It was this song and Dirty Little Secret that seemed to be in every film, TV show, radio station, and grocery store. Some of the things it was placed in was  She’s the ManThe HitcherFirehouse DogOver Her Dead Body, Rock Band, and One Tree HillWhenever I hear a song from this album, it takes me back to age 14.

So the song was written by Tyson Ritter the lead vocals and bass guitarist, along with Nick Wheeler, the lead guiatarist and drummer. The song was actually written to be an anti-suicide message. Wheeler said the:

“song [was] about believing in oneself and persevering in the face of problems…”

So I think that this song really applies to the Heartbreak series, as not everyone will consider a suicide after they encounter a breakup, but most will have trouble trying to believe in themselves and others, and face their problems. Not to mention moving along.

I also love the music video as it shows Ritter in a lot of different outfits with all kinds of backgrounds. It helps make the music universal and relate to everyone.

Go ahead as you waste your days with thinking
When you fall everyone stands
Another day and you’ve had your fill of sinking
With the life held in your
Hands are shaking cold
These hands are meant to hold

Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along
Move along

MoveAlongAAR

So a day when you’ve lost yourself completely
Could be a night when your life ends
Such a heart that will lead you to deceiving
All the pain held in your
Hands are shaking cold
Your hands are mine to hold

Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)

When everything is wrong, we move along
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)
When everything is wrong, we move along
Along, along, along

movealongAAR

When all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through

(Go on, go on, go on, go on)
Right back what is wrong
We move along

So this marks the end of the angry songs:

Moveon

And into focusing in the self, completely moving on and getting over the ex.
