Horrorfest V: New Blood

Horror Films

So it is once again time for Horrorfest.

horrornerd

So this year marks my fifth time doing Horrorfest. Since it is such a huge marker I wanted to do something different.

Do tell

Do tell…

The past four years I have started off Horrorfest with a classic Horror film, working from the 1960s, Carnival of Souls, to the 1930s, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I thought about doing something from the 1920s, or 70s, or starting back in the 1960s; but none of those seemed right.

I want this year’s Horrorfest to be different. Unexpected. Unusual.

So what will we cover?

Hmm...

Hmm…

Let’s see we have Alfred Hitchcock, ghosts, kids with powers beyond their control, murderers, psychopaths, radioactive creatures, robots, serial killers, and more.

Be Good to Yourself

somethingelse&diff

Here we are, another song on the “Getting Over a Heartbreak” series:

be-good-to-yourself

27) Be Good to Yourself by Journey

This song came out in 1986, and quickly climbed the charts as number 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Be Good to Yourself was a mantra that lead singer Steve Perry would say over and over. Jonathan Cain, the keyboardist, wrote it down and it later was turned into a song. At the time period, Perry was dealing with home issues and a dying mother. It took them five months to write the complete thing.

The song was written by Perry, Cain, and Neal Schon. This actually saw the leaving of bassiest, Ross Valory and drummer, Steve Smith; replaced by Larrie Londin and Randy Jackson.

I included it in this songlist, as after a breakup, it is always important to remember to be good to yourself. Not only as in taking care of yourself as in making sure that you don’t go off the deep end in letting yourself go. You should also make sure that you are going out, living your life, etc.

Runnin’ out of self-control
Gettin’ close to an overload
Up against a no win situation
Shoulder to shoulder, push and shove
I’m hangin’ up my boxin’ gloves
I’m ready for a long vacation

Be good to yourself when, nobody else will
Oh be good to yourself
You’re walkin’ a high wire, caught in a cross fire
Oh be good to yourself
When you can’t give no more
They want it all but you gotta say no

BEGoodJourneyI’m turnin’ off the noise that makes me crazy
Lookin’ back with no regrets
To forgive is to forget
I want a little piece of mind to turn to
Be good to yourself when, nobody else will

And if you have been following me lately, you’d know that one thing this magic protects against is a broken heart.

25) The Lining is Silver by Relient K

This song comes off the album The Bird and the Bee Sides, the same CD that Up and Up came from. The title of the song comes from the idiom “that every cloud has a silver lining”. Which means that you can always find good in bad.

Now the song takes it in a new direction. It does cover that in bad you can find good, but also that the silver lining is in you. You are the good in the bad situation, it resides in who you are. You are golden, you are awesome.

Awesome

I found my new black shoes
While cleaning out the bones left in my closet
They were there with the bad excuse
Bon Voyage
Bye thoughts

Bye thoughts

And I found a back up plan
I’m grateful that I didn’t have to use it
But it’s made of real good friends
Bon Voyage

Friendship

Isn’t it nice to know
That the lining is silver
Isn’t it nice to know
That we’re golden

Well I found a list of flaw
That I saw in myself and other people
And I threw it away because

insecurity

Isn’t it nice to know
That the lining is silver
Isn’t it nice to know
That we’re golden
Yeah we’re golden
Oh

When it all falls apart and you can’t see
The forest for the cemeteries
Isn’t it nice to know
Isn’t it nice to know

Isn’t it nice to know
That the lining is silver
Isn’t it nice to know
That we’re golden
Oh

Isn’t it nice to know
That the lining is silver
Isn’t it nice to know
That we’re golden
Yeah we’re golden oh

I found a love in me
I always somehow knew that it existed
It just needed to be set free
